5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful, 21 July 2007
This book is full of some very realistic looking flowers. It can be alittle difficult to understand how to make some of the flowers at first because to make some I think you need some experience, but having said that once you have a basic understanding, if you reread how to make some of the flowers, it makes alot more sence. Some of the cutters I have found are quite difficult to find, but once you have found them, Alison makes about ten different flowers from the same design. At the end of the book you can see some of her cakes she has made from the flowers and are so realistic and beautiful. At first I thought I would never understand how to make the flowers because they looked complicated but as I said, if you reread, the instructions really are very helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant, 21 July 2007
This is the second book of the series, and as ever is fantastic. The book is slighty more advanced than the first is is packed full of very useful and help step by step tips. There are sections all about chocolate, embroidery, making flowers, recipes, runouts, figure piping, bas relief, marzipan....I could go on because the techniques are endless. A must have for a cake maker or someone who just wants to try different methods and styles.

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointing, 27 Jun 2007
What can I say..... I was so looking forward to watching this DVD, but was so disappointed.

The quality is so very poor. I think it must have been recorded using a camcorder, used for a video to then be used as a DVD. The entire showing is so yellow, and it is very difficult to see the flowers being made because of the glare from the instructors uniform. Sadly very often you just cant see any details...lol or even the flowers sometimes. Also quite often you will lose all sound, as you do with old camcorded recordings. So all in all what useful information you may have learnt, is somehow taken away because of the distraction caused by the very very poor recording quality.

This DVD is full of very useful tips, advise and help. The instructor will explain so many details, while you can see her make a lily, longiforum lily and rose in easy to follow steps by step from start to finish.

The only negative thing I can really say about this, is the very poor quality of the recording, which looks like it was filmed on a camcorder, then put onto a DVD. But I have found this with all the DVD's I have bought so far from the Cake Decorating series. However, the fact that so much information is packed into this, makes up for the poor quality. Great for the beginner in cold porcelain.

5.0 out of 5 stars great for beginners, 27 Jun 2007
This review is from: Successful Sugarcraft [DVD] (DVD)
This was the first decorating dvd I bought, and found it was a great help.

The boxed set is made up from 3 DVD's and is full of so much useful information. Some of Elaines flowers are quite basic, which is great for someone who is either just beginning sugarcraft or who would like to learn, but who doesnt know how to begin.

She also shows you how to make models from marzipan and paste in easy to follow steps. Her 3rd DVD will show you how to marzipan, royal ice and how to cover a cake with fondant. All in all a great buy and a huge help.

4.0 out of 5 stars great for beginners, 13 Jun 2007
The only real negative thing I can say about this DVD, is that the quality is not particularly of a very proffesional level. But saying that, if you are a beginner at making cakes like myself, this will not put you off. Infact it has the opposite affect and makes the approach to decorating a more relaxed one. Also if you are expecting to be shown a step by step from making a cake to a finished decorated cake, this does not happen. Instead the DVD is broken up into just many differnt techniques. For example you are shown how to marizpan, both square and round cakes, then how to apply icing. How to make royal icing, how to pipe, make garret frills and how to apply these to your cake. I found this to be a very informative DVD as a beginner, and have learnt alot from it. All in all a good buy.

1.0 out of 5 stars awful, 13 Jun 2007
This review is from: A Piece Of Cake [DVD] (DVD)
I gave this DVD 1 star because I was feeling generous. This has got to be the worst cake DVD I have ever watched. Do not be tempted by what you see on the front of the cover, because these cakes are not featured. It is not very informative and is rather rushed. If you are a beginner at making cakes, a step by step approach is very helpful, sadly this DVD does not provide this very well. AIso it says that it offers a fail safe method and prevents cake disasters. By this I thought it would offer advice of how to stop cakes from ie doming and to slice cakes evenly in half etc. I was also hoping this DVD showed you how to ice and decorate cakes like the ones on the cover, which it did not. So all in all not a very well planned or thought out DVD.
