3.0 out of 5 stars Slightly disappointing, 13 Mar 2013

Having read most if not all of Lorenzo Carcaterra' s books I think this is by far his least compelling read. It is slow to start and at times a bit haphazard in its flow. For anyone interested in trying other books by the same author 'Sleepers' and 'Gangster' are supremely better reads.

3.0 out of 5 stars Historically interesting but somewhat tedious, 21 Feb 2013

I persevered through to the end! It is a book for those who like facts. The biggest frustration is the continual footnotes which are at the back of the book. This makes accessing them a tad difficult on the Kindle. It is however a fascinating insight into Policing in the late 19th & early 20th centuries.

Having read the Forgotten Legion trilogy by Ben Kane, I decided to try a different author. I enjoyed the book as a whole but it is not as fast paced or totally engaging as the aforementioned and I have to say I found the numerous spelling and grammatical errors really annoying. The proofreading is not good. I now have to decide whether to bother reading the rest of this trilogy. Hmmm....

5.0 out of 5 stars The best album I've bought in years!, 8 Jan 2001
This review is from: White Ladder (Audio CD)
For anyone who likes good music to play while sipping a nice glass of wine this is a 'must buy' CD. The vocals and mellow acoustic guitar just leave that same feel good factor as say Eric Clapton Unplugged.
