5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended, 18 Jun. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this item after much internet searching finding it was the recommended item by many YouTube calligraphy tutors and on calligraphy websites, so I'm very surprised I'm only the second person to write a review!

The pen is very easy to use if you read the excellent and detailed instructions included with it (which will also give you instructions for standard, italic and Gothic lettering, both upper and lower case). The pen can be used on its widest point for calligraphic writing, and on its narrowest, for standard thin ink pen writing.

This is a wide pen, though they have wider on offer, I find the wideness looks best on really quite large lettering, if you're looking for something that looks good on a large handwriting sized letter, buy the size smaller.

My only tip would be that unless you're going for an artistic bleed effect, try to avoid really porous paper (cheap white paper, watercolour/sketch book paper) as the lines can appear a bit fuzzy, for really crisp lines a high gsm white paper is best.

Purchased this over a year ago and it's still going strong. The sound reproduction isn't brilliant, but it's very quick, easy and intuitive to use.

This is a great, practical product, very easy to view at a glance, if you have a lot to write in the space might be a bit limiting, but for quick appointment jotting it's perfect.

Worth every penny. This works like a charm. It does lift the laptop somewhat which makes it a little uncomfortable to have on your lap, but it is great on a table which gives the laptop an air gap, so the battery also works as a cooler.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cheaper options available, 26 May 2013

This does work, though not as miraculously as others may have you believe. But I have found cheaper options. Just squeeze some soap onto a sponge and rub the razor over in the opposite direction to shaving, push a bit so the soap foams and comes right through the holes between the blades dislodging any deposits - job done!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bought for my boyfriend for Christmas, 26 May 2013

These have saved my man's hands from lots of chills this winter, they were so cheap and work like a charm. Only very minor complaint is that my partner says the coated tips make those ends of the fingers cold - must be due to the thermal quality of the fabric, but it's a small price to pay.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Little gadget, 26 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Very useful gadget for pouring things -
use to drain off fat, to drain water, to pour sauces etc.

Only problem is that if too much heavy food piles up against the spout it can start to slip off- but as silicone is very heat resistant and doesn't conduce well you can usually just hold it on with your free hand.

2.0 out of 5 stars Made me so itchy (edited review), 3 Dec. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have used this twice now on my eczema-prone skin and it makes it itch like crazy, especially after shaving. Makes me really sad because I was hoping this would be the wonder cure - no chemicals, just natural vitamin-rich oil. Sadly no luck :(. Any opinions on trying shea butter instead? I will keep persisting with the almond oil, maybe applying it before a shower as one reviewer suggested would help more.

EDIT: above was written when my skin was very damaged, broken and scabbed patches etc. I have since bought some 100% pure lanolin which worked a treat and now I use the oil in conjunction with the lanolin to make the lanolin less sticky and it works fine - I still get a bit of a sting and a tingle, but no urge to shove my legs in icy water!

4.0 out of 5 stars Effective but messy!, 16 Dec. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This hair colour product really works, may hair does not feel damaged and it is soft and supple. I do however have a few minor criticisms. I realise that this is my first time using Henna and therefore many frequent users of henna may not find these criticisms valid, however for first time users, here were my problems:

plastic gloves were not provided with the product
the product is extremely messy to apply and hard to spread through the hair due to it being a thick paste
the product has a lasting smell which is re-released every time hair is wet. Though it is not unpleasant, merely earthy, it does mask the smell of other hair products.

I will be using henna again, but this time I will be investing in some plastic gloves!

The Children's Book
The Children's Book
by A S Byatt
Edition: Paperback
Price: £6.39

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprising, shocking and informative, 8 April 2011
This review is from: The Children's Book (Paperback)
I started reading this book after my Grandma had given up after about 100 pages declaring it "not her cup of tea", so I approached it with a certain amount of scepticism, but I was pleasantly surprised. The book is initially quite hard-going and would not suit a person who reads very sporadically as there is a very large cast of characters whose relationships to each other have to be remembered - the book would benefit from a family tree or at least a list of everyone at the beginning! This book suits someone with very eclectic reading taste - you must have a joy of fairy tales and fantasy as the book contains a couple of large passages of these, the book also contains several chapters of very dense historical fact relating to the background against which the character's lives are set. You must also not be squeamish as the book details every bit of human fallibility, relationships and the gruesome details of war honestly and explicitly.

My favourite thing about the book was how as a reader you come to care about every character in a cast of well over 20 people, each character is flawed, fallible and incredibly human and their relationships are very bit as complicated and convoluted as those in real life.

This book also has excellent progression, it covers about 30 years of the characters lives, each approximate decade in its own section and the ageing of the characters is reflected in the progression, with the first part being happy, childlike and focussed on fantasy, the second looking at growing up, finding oneself and embarking on first relationships, and the third on the realities of marriage, work and war.

This is a very satisfying book.
