5.0 out of 5 stars Back to the best years of my life, 10 Nov 2012
This book is the best one that I have ever read on the best band in the f,,,,in world the JAM. I first saw them on the tv in 1977 on Marc Bolans show playing All Around The World ,and from that moment was hooked. Saw them 3 times live. The thing with the Jam was they were the same as us ,brought up in the 60,and early 70s with sod all, they sang about working class issues with such passion, because thats exactly what they were, and didnt pretend to be anything else, and as such treated their audience with respect. Even though I was gutted at the time ,30 years on I can see now that Paul was probably right to finish it when he did, their legacy is competely untarnished. This book contains a wealth of pictures ,info, and recollections from fans.As one fan wrote at the time of their breakup ," The Jam were our Beatles, thankfully they are not going to be our Rolling Stones" says it all really.

5.0 out of 5 stars 12th ss panzer Hitler Jugend, 1 Oct 2010
Having read a number of books regarding the 12th ss panzer, I have to say that this one is the best. Written by Hubert Mayer , former SS Obersturmbannnfuhrer( lt col) and divisional adjutant, it tells the story of approx 20,000 young men who believed in doing their duty to their country. Taken from the class of 1926, these boys would have been 7 years of age at the time of hitlers rise to power in 1933 , and consequently knew no other political system other than that of national socialism.

Following the disaster of stalingrad , it was decided to raise a division taken from the H J organisation ,most of the officers and nco s were taken from the elite Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler. The boys were trained under the most realistic combat conditions possible ,and were deemed ready for active sevice by may 1944. The 12th ss panzer denied Montgomery the city of caen for 5 weeks , Montgomery setting it as a D Day first day objective. The division was alleged to have shot a number of Canadian P O W S during the first days of combat, whilst this is not disputed I think that it is neieve to imagine that both sides on occasion did not shoot prisoners when they were an inconvenience, or when having been subjected to severe battlefield conditions at an extremly young age.
