4.0 out of 5 stars Not really a whodunit....., 17 April 2013

more a story of friendship between four women.

I nearly gave up a few pages in thought it was a bit 'chic litish' for me, but it was late and couldn't be bothered starting a new book so read on.

Am glad I stayed with it, but would have liked the other womens stories padded out a bit more.

Was a lot of name dropping (designers) in there which wasn't needed.

But hey, that said, was a good read and I enjoyed it.

Felt this story lost its way towards the end, in fact the end, the outcome of the mystery seemed rushed.

The romance side of the story didn't ring true, the dialogue between the two involved was very cringy!

Started off with such promise, was 'right there' with the main female character, could imagine her despair and frustration and was intrigued how she would cope and what the outcome would be....right up to about 60% into the story.

Then sadly the story disintegrated into a mish mash of 50 Shades and a Barbara Cartland novel.

Found myself skipping through several pages of 'rampant sex' all got a bit repetitive and boring and scan read to the end.

The use of the word 'ya' was overdone, I know the guy was from the South but was irritating to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real page turner, 1 April 2013

I actually really dislike the term 'a real page turner' too clichéd but, for once, for me anyway, it fits the bill to describe this story.

Fast paced, lots going on, several twists and turns and an ending I didn't see coming.

What more can you want?!

5.0 out of 5 stars A little gem of a book, 30 Mar. 2013

Acquired this as an Amazon freebie, and what a gem it turned out to be.

Good 'real' characters throughout, nothing too fanciful and unbelievable in the story line.

Would like more books from this author set in the UK, a personal 'thing' for me but I don't like stories that are 'abroad', so unfortunately won't be reading her others.

But would definitely recommend this one.

I do love a 'whodunnit' set in the UK.

This for me, was one of those books that I looked forward to picking up and finding out what happened next in the story.

Loved the banter between the two main detectives.

Only 'moan' was I didn't feel going on about how much the lead character loved his girlfriend and how they couldn't keep their hands off each other added anything to the story at all.....in fact got on my wick hearing about how soft her skin was and how silky her hair....who cares!? I want to know who was chopping up the bodies.

Shame it is the only novel by this author, hope there are more to come....minus the flipping girlfriend!

Not Dead Yet (Ds Roy Grace 8)
Not Dead Yet (Ds Roy Grace 8)
by Peter James
Edition: Paperback
Price: £7.99

3.0 out of 5 stars Not one of his best, 14 Mar. 2013

I am a huge Peter James fan, so was delighted to find this as a Kindle cheapie.

But sad to say, I was for the first time disappointed.

I felt there was too much padding, as if Mr James had been told to write x number of words, and to fill it out he listed too many names ie everybody in a meeting addressed by their full titles, too often for my liking.

Too many suspects, kept losing track tbh, and maybe time to put an end to the constant references to Sandy the missing wife.
