At Last Some Real Music, 25 Oct 2010
I was unaware of Clara Sanabras until I heard her English rendition of the 1976 Joan Manuel Serrat hit, Mediterraneo, which appears on this disc as a bonus track. The translation first caught my ear as it's easily the best I've ever heard. The arrangement and choice of instruments also drew me, so I tracked it down on Amazon and ordered it.
When I played the rest of the tracks I was treated to a tasteful array of songs that are hard to classify - 'torchfolk' is the best I could come up with - romantic soulful songs, with strong melodies and arrangements leaning towards string based folk music. I understand Clara is likened to Nora Jones - all I can say is Nora better keep looking over her shoulder!
