5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Avatar, 26 April 2010

This review is from: Avatar [DVD] (DVD)
Have just watched the DVD, having not seen it at the cinema. Some people are never satisfied!
Yes it was a familiar story, bringing the story of the American Indians (north in the 19th century and south in the last) to mind but that only goes to show that we never learn. If we ever do get to another planet I bet the moneymen behave in just the same way.
Then we have the 'wooden dialogue and acting' I must have been watching a different film. The dialogue seemed to fit the two cultures rather than be clunky. The live action scenes blended well with the avatar scenes.
Like many, I was surprised at the absence of any extras but that might have spoiled the magic.
For nearly 3 hours I was lost in Pandora and can only imagine what it was like in 3D. All I can say is thank you Mr Cameron for the privilege of sharing your vision.

4.0 out of 5 stars No more cooking funes, 22 April 2010

The Baumatic cooker hood was the perfect replacement for the one that had seen better days. Looks good and is effective at removing the steam and smells from our galley kitchen. The reasonable price was an added bonus. The dimensions and other descriptions given were spot on and made it easy to fit. The manufacturers were extremely helpful. I will certainly keep them in mind for any future purchases.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super extension, 5 Dec 2009

First read this as an award winning short story. Not all short stories can be extended to full novel length and hold their appeal. This one does. The characters gain greater depth, the storyline retains its suspense and interest. It was great to be able to read and enjoy it again.

Having played the video game I was curious to see the film. The critics panned it but I think they were a bit unfair. The film angle at the beginning convinced me I knew who the killer was so the ending was pleasingly unexpected.
De Niro and Pacino were their usual excellent selves producing performances of depth in contrast with some weakness in dialogue and plot.
Well worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Who, 11 Aug 2009

Though this saw the end of my favourite Doctor (till Tom Baker) Troughton certainly went out with a bang! Superb blend of action and thought provoking dialogue, along with our first view of the Time Lords ... Not to be missed. The extras make this set worth every penny, no Doctor Who collection can be complete without it.

Richard E Grant et al must have really enjoyed themselves making this and it makes entertaining viewing. The younger actors do not allow themselves to be overshadowed by the adults. A clever storyline and a great ensemble cast.

3.0 out of 5 stars I wanted to believe, 30 Jan 2009

The latest X Files move to the large screen was even more disappointig than the first. The storyline was banal and even Billy Connoley's tour de force performnce could not raise the film above the level of average. David Duchovny is not as great an actor as he thinks he is and the cast seemed embarassed to be there.

5.0 out of 5 stars FUJI =FUN, 10 Sep 2007
A* for appearance. Stylish, good looking camera that takes superb photos.
The controls are clear and easy to use, even with arthritic fingers.
The accompanying book is well written, giving lots of clear advice.
The accompanying software is also very useful, the Finepix Viewer suite has lots of useful features for the beginner.
Fuji has an excellent reputation. The A900 and the access to the fuji website are proof that this is well deserved.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this camera to anyone who wants a reasonably priced, quality camera.

5.0 out of 5 stars A 'new' addition to the Jungle Book world, 14 Aug 2006
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Jungle Book [DVD] (DVD)
In some ways a cross between Tarzan and Pygmalian, this retelling of Mowgli's story is an entertaining addition to anyone's collection.

The story line of the lost child returning to the fold is well known but the performances of the actors make it a joy. John Clees as the teacher is brilliant and Cary Elwes makes a convincing upper class villain.

I have this on VHS and am delighted to be able to replace it with the DVD to make extra room on the shelves for more.
