5.0 out of 5 stars 5 star for neutrality!, 30 Oct. 2011

I was looking for a while for a book about to understand beter Arab- Israeli issues, but it was always hard to find non partisan view. I ordered this one after reading Shipler's book about Soviet Union which I found incredibly insightful. This one is great too. First of all, it provides non biased view of the conflict, which is very rare for the US mainstream in particular. Secondly, it explores various depths and breadth of the animosity. Thirdly, its written extremely well and no wonder, Shipler was NY times correspondent over decade or more... Thoroughly recommend...

2.0 out of 5 stars Funny...in places..., 30 Oct. 2011

this book makes attempt at black humour thru portraying extinct or old objects, that is whose friends are dead. This may have been a nice idea for 2-3 posters, but as an idea it's just not enough for a book, even this short one.... Do not recommend it...

4.0 out of 5 stars works for me, 10 Sept. 2011

Indeed, it's doesn't let you down...It has all the features of the previos models + the voice announces street names, which is really helpful especially when you're in unfamiliar area, e.g. abroad. The reason I didn't give 5 star is that when you drive out of underground parking/ or anywhere wth a limited/no reception it takes it at least 3-5 min to get a signal which is rather long, esepcailly if you're unfamiliar with the area and in a busy traffic...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as their other books, 10 Sept. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this book partly becaused I enjoyed one of the couple'f first books about ten years ago... This one is a bit less insightful and full of fairly conventional observations, e.g. when the person you talking to crosses arms on their chest it suggests a scepticism/desire to put a barrier... Wow ! Really ?

And Thereby Hangs A Tale

3.0 out of 5 stars Just OK, 26 Feb. 2011

It's a compliations of short novels, few brilliant ones and many rather dull... Hence the 3 star rating on average. It doesn't help that you expect more from the author of Abel and Kane or the Prisoner of Birth. If you haven't read the latter two then I suggest you do and don't bother with this one...

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down !, 26 Feb. 2011

This review is from: A Prisoner of Birth (Paperback)
It tooks me just a couple of days to read the 500+ page book. It is very captivating and extremely well written. In simple terms its a cross between the best in the genre court thriller and The Count of Monte Cristo. Clearly the author's first hand experience with the criminal courts and penitentiary systems has helped!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good book, 2 Jan. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book disects how economic policy and international trade have shaped number of major world events and societies as we know today. It's a very well written combination of economics, history, sociology and few other things. It does a good job at dispelling many common fallacies such as 'certain religions are not conducive to an economic success'. The author is well informed, trained and unbiased, therefore puts together a good analysis of causes and effects without sliding into conspiracy theories. You will particularly find it useful, if you come from a specific industry and would like to understand the bigger economic world, such as how an economic policy and internationla trade work or how certain countries turned the way they did... The reason I did not give the book 5 stars is its coverage of the oil industry. Although on whole it contained number of a very astute observations and concusions (the best I've seen from outside the industry), it still couldn't avoid a couple of stereotypical traps. This is not likely to be the case for other chapters, after all the author is affiliated with the FT, expert in financial and economic issues, and not Oil and Gas Magazine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gadget!, 2 Jan. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It's small and inexpensive gadget that bring an extra dimension into you use of the Ipod. My kids wanted it because of the apps and games that needed it. In particular, the cat that repeats everything you say is absolutely hilarious. I suspect it shoudl also make skyping work, but I'm yet to try it (one of those days when kids let me get hold of the device.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Very useful book, 2 Jan. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I found this to be a very useful source to feed my initial interest in wines. It's rather comprehensive book covering general 'consumer' information such as types of grapes, wine making, tasting, finding the right glasses, understanding wine labels, ordering wine in restaurant, selecting wine for food (or vice versa), etc The second part of the book is very descriptive guide to world wines covering famous as well as more obscure producing countries. Its written very well and helps one to like wine rather than be discouraged by all the pomp and industry around it. One of the immediate effects of the book is that I can find exaqctly the type of wine I need in shops and enjoy these better.
