3.0 out of 5 stars LOADS STOLEN FROM LORD OF THE RINGS AND PULLMANS DARK MATERIALS, 30 July 2007
Well, I have really enjoyed these books, and this is one of the best. The thing that gets me is her complete bluntness in stealing other peoples work.

If you have ready Lord of the Rings or His Dark Materials, you will wonder how she had the nerve to right this book. (A jewel around his neck? which altered their emotions? wonder where I've heard that one before, let me think?

Enjoy these books for what they are, and they are fun and engaging, but she is not this amazing story writer as many portray her. Leave that to J.R.R. Tolkien, Philip Pullman and C.S. Lewis to name a few.

5.0 out of 5 stars RE-DISCOVERY, 23 July 2007
This review is from: Glow (Audio CD)
I used to love Reef, but then I got caught up in all the new and up and coming bands of the moment and forget about all the great tunes that have gone before.
I was clearing out some old CDs and discovered this, once played I realised how much I missed them, every tune is excellent and still refreshing, this doesn't sound ten yrs old at all. This is proper chill out beach rock, the rifts are awesome. If you are interested in this band then I suggest you try their first album Replenish as well, you won't be disapointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars SUPERB, BUT NOT AS GOOD AS 'HOURS', 23 May 2007
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Hours was just excellent, the best album I've heard in years, so was pretty hard to match, but that's almost what they have done. It is very different, much more emo-esc (all american rejects, jimmy eat world) etc, but that shouldn't be taken away from what really is a very good, well polished album, can't stop listening to it myself. Only given it 4 because it just doesn't match up to their album 'Hours'

1.0 out of 5 stars WHAT WHAT WHAT??????, 17 April 2007
This review is from: The Best Damn Thing (Audio CD)
What has happened to Avril. Their (Her) first two albums were really really great, but this is just a shambles of the former artist. It arrived yesterday and I couldn't wait to listen to it, but oh how disapointing. Has some marketing company got hold of her or something because this is bad bad pop rock.

There are probably only two songs on this album worthy of listening to more than once, Hot and Innocence, the rest are just awful and screechy.

Come back Avril, another album like this and it's all over.

5.0 out of 5 stars POLISHED PERFECTION, 4 April 2007
This review is from: Because Of The Times (Audio CD)
This is such a suprise. When I first listened to it I was shocked at how chilled out it was, then after listening to it properly that was it, I was hooked. It doesn't have the obvious singles that their previous albums had, but this is a much better and more polished piece of work.

5.0 out of 5 stars SOUTHERN SPECTACULAR, 3 Oct 2006
This review is from: Aha Shake Heartbreak (Audio CD)
How does one describe this album, southern american rock maybe, but oh how it rocks. Their first album was excellent, but they have actually gone one better.

This is one band you must listen too, because to describe them it would all just come out wrong, so do yourself a favour and treat yourself to some magic and make your own mind up.

SHEER CLASS

5.0 out of 5 stars CRAKIN, 3 Oct 2006

This review is from: The Back Room (Audio CD)
The surprise of 2005, and oh what a surprise, this is great.

You can hear their influences, must obviously Depeche Mode, but put that aside and you have one crakin album, I just can't stop playing and singing (very badly) along to it.

You won't regret this being in your collection especially with tracks like All Sparks, Blood and Munich. These are another band that I hope will go far, along with Hard Fi and The Kings of Leon, all very different but one word links them (PERFECT)

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS ALBUM WILL BECOME A GREAT, 3 Oct 2006
Verified Purchase(What is this?)

This is just brilliant, right on the spot of modern life. This really is going to be a future classic album. I just end up singing along to pretty much every track. This is something that can be played in the car, on the ipod, at the gym or in the clubs, perfect every time.

Bring on a second album, lets hope they don't do a 'killers' and ruin what they have created.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS ROCKS AND THEN ROCKS SOME MORE, 3 Oct 2006
This review is from: Wolfmother (Audio CD)
Wow wow wow this takes me back to when I was a kid and first got into rock music.

It's not trying to be or say anything, it just ROCKS, if you love old prog rock then this is a must buy, you won't regret it. Let your senses go and just enjoy.

I bought it out of sheer curiosity, and it has turned out to be one of the best albums of the year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece, 22 Feb 2006
This review is from: Mezzanine (Audio CD)
This is possibly their best album ever. Dark and moody and brilliantly done, they continue to push music to it's limit. Different from their 'safe from harm' days, this is a must buy dark chillout album. Hauntingly beautiful, if you like Portishead and Goldfrapp then you will love this. One of the best modern bands to come out of the UK.
