5.0 out of 5 stars lots of reasons to believe, 16 Aug 2013

I've always loved Tim Hardin's work and this is a superb collection that I've been playing for months now and that really does justice to Hardin's genius. Worth the price even if it were only for Mark Lanegan and the Smoke Fairies' stunning contributions.

Worth the price for "Feel it coming near" all on its own but there's much more here. I've been playing this for months and it just gets better with every listen. Smoke Fairies are way ahead of the pack.

Once these tracks insinuate themselves in your head they just don't move out and you won't want them to either. Spirited, visceral and original, Peggy Sue have come up with a smouldering gem here. Wonderful stuff!

This is one of the most moving collection of songs I've ever heard. At first I thought I'd made a dreadful mistake. This just wasn't my 'thing'. But during the course of a few plays something strange started happening... some kind of magic was wrought... and now I reckon that if you can take CDs to heaven I'm definitely taking this one. What an incredible human warmth Baby Dee exudes. The vocals take a bit of getting used to but once you've managed that you wouldn't have her sing her songs any other way. There's a deep sense of pathos to this album... a winsome yearning for something forever just out of reach. I am reminded of TS Eliot's lines about "some infinitely gentle, infinitely suffering thing". One of the other reviewers here described her as a "true original" and that is exactly right. But see for yourself - I doubt you'll be disappointed. If Baby Dee lived in my neighbourhood I'd invite her around for a drink and bake her a nice pie! I think she'd like that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sublime, 29 Feb 2012

Bought this CD pretty much 'cold' on the strength of its 4-stars in Q. It should've got five - it's just magnificent. No other word for it. Stunning vocals (lead and otherwise), classy arrangements, cracking pace. Not a weak track on the album. Deserves to be up there with Florence's Ceremonials et al. If Beth Jeans H and the Hooves of Destiny can pull off something of this stature again they're destined for spending a lot of time in the winners' enclosure. This is the sort of 'find' that prompts you to snap up the entire back-catalogue - no previewing and no questions asked. In this case it's just a lone EP so no great outlay. Can't wait for the Hooves next outing.
