5.0 out of 5 stars Kentucky Rockers do it again with rocking riffage!, 21 Jun 2011
"Between the Devil & the Deep Blue Sea', is the third studio album from Kentucky natives Black Stone Cherry. It is by far the bands most commercial release, but that isn't to say the band has lost any of their southern rock groove. In fact the band have progressed both lyrically and musically since the release of their sophomore effort `Folklore & Superstition' back in 2008. Thealbum, produced by Howard Ronson, has been one of this year's most anticipated rock albums and defiantly exceeds the fan expectation with a mixture of rock ballads and head-banging tracks.

The album has memorable choruses with Kentucky fuelled riffage helping it surpass the standard of common mainstream rock radio, especially with the track 'Like I roll'. `Like I Roll' is a musical work of art, with the a feel good chorus and upbeat tempo, it's a song to roll down that sunroof, crank up the car stereo and drive down the open road.

Black Stone Cherry has developed musically and lyrically, although touched on a mainstream radio sound, with the injection of groove cutting rock riffs the band holds on to their signature southern sound with this third studio release.

Another great track by the nickelback boys! it's catchy, feel good and instantly an awesome summer hit!

The lyrics are easy to pick up and you find yourself singing along when you hear the track on the radio and CD/ipod. Although it is not one of the bands heavier tracks it is definitly a chart topping single.
It rocks and to me its my rock anthem to summer 2010

5.0 out of 5 stars Brutal Music Masterpiece, 22 July 2010
This review is from: Periphery (Audio CD)
The band has been around since early 2004 and have gone through a line up change with the singer before the release of their self titled album. This release I would define as a brutal musical masterpiece and defiantly a must for fans of Between The Buried and Me, Skith and Meshuggah.

The music combines complex rhythms with a brutal progress metal sound with the added thrashing and shredding of the guitars bringing the album to its definitive sound. The vocals are strong throughout every song and although took a couple of listens to the album to appreciate the quality of musicianship the vocals are definitely a strength but like I said, it does take a while to get used to them. The album also presents a mix of electronic samples but composed with outstanding brutal riffs that again contribute to the definitive sound that is Periphery.

This release is one of the best instrumentally and musicianship that I've heard in a long time from the progress metal scene and honestly cannot for the band to tour and hear more from brutal progressive metallers Periphery!!

A must for fans of Between The Buried and Me, Skith and Meshuggah.

5.0 out of 5 stars Taking Dawn!!, 21 April 2010
This review is from: Time To Burn (Audio CD)
Like i said in the headline - this album Time to Burn is a total beast of a debut record from Taking Dawn. Pulling inspiration i would say the band has a mixed sound of Skid Row and motley crue with a heavier sound!

The music mixes power and attitude together and combined produces up beat, fast paced heavy music!

The songs that do it for me the most are Like a Revolution; its fast and it rocks! really great live!!
The Chain, being a fantastic cover by Fleetwood mac, is a standout song on the album, its obviously a much heavier version and the band really do it well.

Taking Dawn, A fantastic new addition into the music world.
This Album - Defiantly Recommended.

Burn It To The Ground
Burn It To The Ground

5.0 out of 5 stars Burn it to the Ground - AWESOME, 16 Jan 2010
Burn it to the ground, the newest single release off the lastest album 'Dark Horse' and is one of the heavier tracks on the album. Heavier being better. The single is featured in the transformers movie 'revenge of the fallen' and has been nominated for the best rock performance in 2010 Grammy Awards. The song has a fantastic live performance atmosphere and one which is greatly enjoyed each contact on the Dark Horse tour. The track is a Nickelback classic with the Hard Rock riffs throughout, bringing the roots of the band to the current album. Personally the track is one of my favourite and one of best live tracks the band perform on their world tour. Definatly worth the listen 9/10
