Please make sure to fill out the warratee, I forgot and the product failed at the 13month point. Otherwise it performed well for the first year.

5.0 out of 5 stars A glimpse into thinking about complex decision making, 6 Sept. 2015

Material I had not come across elsewhere on the process of decision making and planning. A call for taking the study and development of "common sense" seriously.

The Second Intelligent Species: How Humans Will Become as Irrelevant as Cockroaches
The Second Intelligent Species: How Humans Will Become as Irrelevant as Cockroaches
Price: £0.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Accessible and straight to the problem, but a bit too simple, 6 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I enjoyed the quick read and it brings together many of the issues that shape deep technological future.
The free addendum book is also inspiring, the Manna story.

Overall the specific future scenarios and some of the core arguments are not logically consistent.
More work would help connect these future distopia / utopia scenarios to decisions in the present.

2.0 out of 5 stars ... actually made me start snoring and I got a terrible pain in my teeth from it, 17 Feb. 2015

It actually made me start snoring and I got a terrible pain in my teeth from it.

I suspect it is designed for a smaller head and works for only a certain kind of problem in sleep..

4.0 out of 5 stars Siren servers and humanistic futures, 25 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A romp a across a complex landscape of ideas - essential and original thinking about the information economy - setting the starting points for discourse but frequently stopping short of a deeper analysis. Worth reading but might act in itself as a simplistic siren ideology. In particular too much emphasis on individual creative freedom while not much in relation to collectives.

2.0 out of 5 stars Summary, incomplete and unsubstantiated analysis, 1 May 2010
I was quite dissappointed with the book because it specifically does not peer into the next 50 years rather into the next 10 at most.

Global warming is dismissed as a problem that will likely not be relevant, nuclear proliferation also generally dismissed as many other game changing themes that we face.

Basically it is a book of opinions of the author without much of a logical discussion or framework for the work of futurologist. The author will be correct on many points but I have shelved the book as one to refer to for the points he will predict inaccurately over the next 50 years rather than targeted correctly..

It might be a useful read to understand the problem with reading futures.
