As an avid Android fan and the owner of several Android powered devices, it’s almost a surprise to me that I have never owned an Android TV box! But I guess I have never really had a need for one when I can stream or cast from my tablet to my TV. So taking up an offer from the supplier to test and review the MXQ Pro, I am now the owner of such a device.

The box contents are sparse, aside from the hub you get a HDMI cable, a remote (with no batteries) a quick start guide and a power supply (with a woefully short cable).

The hub itself is of reasonably good quality, it has a plethora of ports, namely 4 USB ports - though more than one or two is probably a bit superfluous. There is a HDMI output, an Ethernet port, SD card slot (up to 32Gb) and AV/SPDIF ports. On board you get 2.4G WiFi, Bluetooth 4, a quad core 64 bit CPU, 1Gb RAM and 8Gb storage (of which approx. 40% is available) So specifications are not too shabby for the price to be fair.

Setup is relatively easy if you are familiar with Android. The supplied ‘manual’ is basic to say the least and is only really a quick start/connection guide. Having said that, the user interface is really simple and fairly logical. More on that later.

The power cable is way too short. If you haven’t got a mains socket within a metre of the box you have a problem. This is not something you can place on the floor near the socket. So I had to buy an extension. But once connected along with the HDMI, the box boots up quickly. You are not prompted to do anything else at this stage, so you need to go into the settings and connect to your WiFi router and whilst you are in settings it pays to go through all of them in turn, to make sure everything matches your setup, particularly the screen, keyboard, language and sound. Finally open up the Play Store and sign in to your Google account if you want to download or sync any apps.

The user interface shows what appear to be shortcuts but they are in fact folders. Here you can add more apps as you acquire them. At this point you might wish to connect a Bluetooth (or wired) keyboard and mouse, as the remote is really not up to navigating the screen in any intuitive way. Everything is fairly self-explanatory once you select an app or setting. The included apps are not exceptional but you can download better ones, like file managers, music players etc. from the Google Play Store. At this point I must mention that you shouldn’t expect all apps to be available but you’ll find a lot are.

I had two issues. Firstly, and bizarrely, whenever I typed anything in the Play Store search bar, it would force the app to close down. This was very frustrating. Luckily the Play Store received an automatic update which solved this. The second issue is more serious. With the box connected to external speakers there is a lot of audible static interference every time you move the pointer on the screen. This is regardless of whether you use a mouse or the remote. It seems OK using HDMI audio through the TV luckily and I may just have a faulty box. But it’s worth bearing in mind.

Performance wise it’s fine, it’s not stellar and multi-tasking is not a strong point. It will grind to a halt if you push too much at once. But the essentials are there with the KODI player for your media content, a reasonable web browser, YouTube player, Netflix etc to get you started. HD video playback is good and there were no further issues with the installed apps.

Overall I am satisfied with it and for the price this is a good Android TV box and I can recommend it with the couple of caveats mentioned.

5.0 out of 5 stars ... stand by the fact this really does give a good shave. The newer model does not offer much ..., 26 May 2016

Bought this to replace my ageing Braun Series 3 and I stand by the fact this really does give a good shave. The newer model does not offer much more but that proves the theory "if it aint broke don't fix it" nicely. There is a setting to drop one set of blades to shave under your nose but I don't tend to use this as sometimes I snag the hair of my moustache on it.

Battery life is really impressive, it has a great build quality and firm grip. My only criticism is that they no longer supply a cover for the blades, just a large carry case, which isn't as convenient if you are storing it in say a bathroom cabinet.

Otherwise, highly recommended.

The only controller that consistently works with the Samsung Gear VR. Very good build quality and no connection problems. There could be more travel on the sticks however. It may be a little pricier but it's worth it. I don't think Samsung make these any longer sadly.

4.0 out of 5 stars good enough for a kitchen anyway, 26 May 2016

These really do eliminate cooking smells, I can at last grill my smoked mackerel again! Quite a pleasant smell, good enough for a kitchen anyway. The tealights are not big enough and don't last long, so I would recommend buying these to try them out before progressing onto a larger candle.

1.0 out of 5 stars Counterfeit product?, 26 May 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I am not convinced that this is a genuine bottle of CB12. I have been using this brand for a year or so, buying from a high street store and decided to save money by buying online. The bottle does not feel right, it has a less rigid plastic material and the lid is also different. The label is stuck on rather than being screen printed. On using the product itself it just didn't taste the same. Normally I have a slight furry feel in my mouth for about 3 or 4 minutes after using, but this didn't happen.

Some reviewers are saying it doesn't do anything more than a regular mouthwash and this could potentially be due to the product not being authentic.

As other reviewers have stated, the game does not download properly. Seems Amazon only installs the game's front end and the failure is with the game data download on start up.
