This was an impulse buy after Christmas and I'm so glad I did. I've had this on repeat for the last week.

Guardian of the Dead
Guardian of the Dead
by Karen Healey
Edition: Paperback
Price: £5.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 16 Oct. 2011
This review is from: Guardian of the Dead (Paperback)
In a genre awash with Western mythology, Karen Healey has created something special. The setting, the careful use of Maori mythology combined with one of the most engaging heroines I have read all year make this a fantastic book. Now I'm off to buy her latest...

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable read from a debut order, 30 Sept. 2011
This review is from: Witch Eyes (Kindle Edition)
Very well written YA debut novel. A male protagonist makes a nice change from the more popular female leads in YA Urban Fantasy. Well written, engaging story and interesting relationships between the characters. I'm keeping my eyes on this author and hope to see another book soon.

75,000+ Baby Names for the 21st Century

1.0 out of 5 stars Do you really need over 200 different spellings for Catherine?, 4 May 2007
I was very disappointed in this book. This isn't a book that gives you 75,000+ names, this is a book that gives you a couple of thousand names focusing on the diverse ways to change and 'modernise' traditional names with the clever use of Z and Y. Of course, if you want to give your child a name that will label you as an over enthusiastic soap watcher and / or trailer trash this is the book for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting yet a little dated, 16 Sept. 2006
This was a fascinating insight into the early days of media culture / fandom but it was decidedly dated. Significant changes in media distribution such as yahoo lists and livejournal kicked off after this was published and their absence in his discussion was jarring. One can only hope the author decides to revisit the subject and give us a revised edition.
