The Undertaking
The Undertaking
by Audrey Magee
Edition: Hardcover
Price: 8.05

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant brilliant book, 3 Jun 2014
This review is from: The Undertaking (Hardcover)
Very well written, deeply emotional and intelligent, this book stays in your head for much longer then you expect. The characters are ordinary people living in an extraordinary conditions. The main strenght of this book are things that are left on the periphery, heavily present but not explored. I am lacking skill and words to explain how brilliant this book is. Highly recommended.

No wonder it takes Donna tart 10 years to write a book - it is full of detail editors usually shy away from. It builds a an amazing world of Theodore, you can't help but cheer for him all the way, even when wrong. The story is immaculately developed and it stays with you for long time after you read it - the true measure of a good book. A must read.

It has it all - forbidden love, jealousy and ambition all intertwined with some strong opinions of current education system. If you work at school, are a school senior yourself, or just a lover of English classics, this book is for you. It would make a very good film too!

Thin, smooth, much more sophisticated than the Pritt stick, lasts longer and sticks better. Shame it is not more widely available.

Stoner: A Novel (Vintage Classics)
by John Williams
Edition: Paperback
Price: 6.29

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, 15 Dec 2013
Brilliant character creation that sucks you in from the first page, you cannot but feel for him all the way through.
Superb yet unassuming writing makes this book a page turner, but in the same time you want to savour every page. If you like 'proper books', ones that stay with you after you finish and you don't want to start another one yet, just so you can re-live it, this is the book for you.
Read it, read it,read it.

I was one of the sheep who went and bought it after it was revealed that was written by JKR, and I do not regret it. I have never read anything written by her, so I went in with an open mind. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I do not even like crime stories. The characters were so well written that you forget it was supposed to be who-dun-it story. It flows beautifully and it got my attention 100% all the way through. Would recommend, but as per my first sentence, you wold expect me to say that.

Whilst reading this book, two movies where running through my mind: Forest Gump and anything by Coen brothers. Has a dip in the middle, the rest is ok-ish. Slightly too long though.

What a story teller Martel is! His book crawls under your skin and for weeks after you catch yourself thinking about it and trying to decide which story is more poetic, rather than true.
