This is the second book which I have read by Helen Dunmore and like The Siege it is unlikely to contain things which have been experienced directly by the writer. However, it is her ability to make the small things come to life which make you feel that you are part of the story and make her such an enthralling writer. Her characters are almost entirely believable and the story line is beautifully spun, making it a difficult book to put down. Her use of English is lovely.
