3.0 out of 5 stars proofreading?, 25 Sept. 2013

A nice enough story, which my daughter really enjoyed. It is somewhat galling, though, that such a short text contains several spelling and continuity errors, including the name of one character. Perhaps a second corrected edition would be a good idea, and worth it.

3.0 out of 5 stars double check instructions, 6 Jan. 2012
This review is from: Kirstie Allsopp Craft (Hardcover)
Some of the crafts are truly beautiful, with different levels of difficulty involved, so there will be lots of things to explore in years to come. I have to say, though, that I am very disappointed with the Banana Cake recipe. I tried it because it had no sugar in the list of ingredients and I was looking for a low sugar cake. But after having made it I think that sugar was only left off the list by accident -- the cake was tasteless and not very good. Or is there a page of corrigenda anywhere that I missed?

Rose's Rainbow (Little Fairies)
Rose's Rainbow (Little Fairies)
by Sam Walshaw
Edition: Paperback
Price: £5.99

5.0 out of 5 stars lovely illustrations, 31 Aug. 2011
My three year old daughter got this as a present a few months ago and just loves the beautiful illustrations and the cute story of the garden fairies helping the insects when it starts to rain badly. The story ends with a magic rainbow and everyone happy, fairies and insects. My daughter loves describing the pictures with their families of snails and bugs. It is one of her current bed time stories.

Yuri Gagarin in London and Manchester - A Smile that Changed the World?

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome contribution to the 50th anniversary of Gagarin's flight, 6 July 2011
I enjoyed reading this book, which combines detailed analysis of newly released contemporary documents with new eyewitness accounts of Gagarin's visit to the UK after his spaceflight, ranging from "normal" people who just happened to be in the right place at the right time (but never forgot that they had been there) to scientists influenced for years by their brief encounter with Yuri Gagarin. Especially the author's interview with Eric Brown who had interviewed Gagarin himself is compelling and revealing.
The link between Gagarin's reasons to visit Manchester and his life before being a test pilot as a foundry worker is really interesting and set out against the background of Manchester as an industrial hub and a centre for foundry work at the time. A welcome contribution to the 50th anniversary of Gagarin's space flight, and to his visit to the UK!

1.0 out of 5 stars not worth the money, 7 Mar. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is not a "high quality paperback"; rather, it is a typed up version of a 1909 translation of these texts by Butler. The translation is good, but freely available on the web. The publisher then printed it on A4 paper in a rather faded and space saving fashion that makes it hard to read, and slapped a cheap soft cover around it. A photocopying shop might have made a better job out of it.
This is not worth spending any amount of money on.
