The Very Best of Neil Sedaka: The Show Goes On
The Very Best of Neil Sedaka: The Show Goes On
Price: £6.99

4.0 out of 5 stars The reproduction is not perfect of the 1970s recordings but is all right, 28 Mar. 2015
I can find nowhere which says which of these songs are originals, but you can work it out from the publishing dates on the CD. So the only 1960 publishing date is for Run Samson Run. All other 1960s songs are re-recordings. The 1970s songs are all originals except for That's When The Music Takes Me and Solitaire (both live versions) and Breaking Up Is Hard To Do (Slow Version) (which is a re-recording). The reproduction is not perfect of the 1970s recordings but is all right. It makes you want to get hold of the oriiginal tapes and remix them yourself. But the package is worth it for the 1970s songs, particularly The Immigrant and Going Nowhere, which prove Sedaka is more than just a catchy tune merchan

A remarkable song recorded in 1972. In attempting to write a song in gibberish to sound like American English to an Italian audience, Adriano seems to have stumbled upon rap / house music 10 years too early!

What on earth is this release? Surely it does not comply with copyright laws?

Well, I am now watching my ultra-violet DVDs of Breaking Bad on the train on my Kindle Fire, without wifi, but it was a big struggle to achieve it. Life should be easier than this!

In case it helps I do not believe you can do the same via the Sony Pictures Store - you seem to have to use Flixster. Also there is a glitch with the redemption codes which you can fix by finding the DVD on Flixster and clicking on it before entering the code. Finally I read that you have to start watching the movie with wifi in order to keep watching it without wifi, so I have done this - I have not tested whether it does not work if you do not do this.

Brilliant song. Brilliant video. What's not to like!

First heard of Hafdis when she sang Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas on The Borrowers. That was nice but this is better!

It seems to be accepted by Beatles' folk that the only tracks which still exist which are definitely by Tony Sheridan and The Beatles are:- My Bonnie, The Saints, Why, Take Out Some Insurance On Me Baby, and Nobody's Child. (Ain't She Sweet and Cry For A Shadow don't feature Sheridan.) The Beatles may have recorded Sweet Georgia Brown, Skinny Minnie and Swanee River with Sheridan but he also recorded those songs without The Beatles and it is probable that The Beatles' versions no longer exist.

That means that 6 of the 19 Sheridan tracks on this CD definitely feature The Beatles (My Bonnie has two versions which both probably have The Beatles on them), 3 are unlikely to, and 10 definitely do not.

The supposed Gene Vincent recording is almost certainly bogus too. There is little evidence that such a track survives.

This is basically a high quality bootleg but don't be fooled into thinking that all these tracks have something to do with The Beatles - they don't!

I actually like On The Rebound and wanted to use it on a Movie Maker project my children are doing. However I cannot import it into Movie Maker, hence the 1 star. I can import previous Amazon downloads into Movie Maker, but not this one. Has something changed?

4.0 out of 5 stars But is it The Beatles ?, 30 Jan. 2012

If you are a Beatles fan and you do not know of this record, then it is time you did. In 1972 when this was released it was accompanied by a strong rumour that it was actually a Beatles' reunion record released under false names.

40 years later you can still hear why. The vocalist, Rich Billay, had an uncanny knack of sounding either like Lennon or Harrison, or occasionally both at once. Furthermore, the songs are clearly deliberately written to mimic the styles of those two Beatles, as well sometimes as that of McCartney.

Indeed, if you listen closely, you can hear things in this record which actually sound more like songs which the individual Beatles had yet to write ! This really is an extraordinary effort by all involved.

But could it actually be The Beatles ? If you like a good conspiracy theory, then yes. The personnel involved here seem to have by and large never done anything else, and what little they did was nowhere near as strong as this. Could they have been given the songs by The Beatles, or by Lennon and Harrison at any rate ? I would say it is hugely unlikely - but anything is possible !

4.0 out of 5 stars A Small Point of Difference, 30 Nov. 2011
Could I just add a vote of confidence for the second album included here - Reflections in a Mud Puddle: Taps, Tremors & Time Steps ?

It contains in my view the most immediately compelling DP track - Doppelganger - as well as two other of her finest songs - The Talkative Woman And The Two Star General and I Dance And Dance And Smile And Smile.

It is never anything less than interesting and it was my introduction to her back in the 70s. Overlook it at your peril !

...the generally negative comments about this album. And I never will. All of George's songs here are worth a listen and many of them would have been stand-out tracks on a Beatles' album if the group had still been going by then. The instrumental (Hari's On Tour) is great - better than John's Beef Jerky - the slower songs are excellent (Far East Man & Simply Shady), and the religious tunes (It Is He & Maya Love) are catchy. It's one of my favourite George albums and way better than anything that came after. I just don't understand !
