4.0 out of 5 stars Something more than a Kindle accessory, 17 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
These Tribeca Studio headphones were purchased with an Amazon Local voucher, giving 50% off. At £34.99 these cans represent excellent value.

The use of wood behind the speakers does enhance both the bass response, resonance and detail - it is something more than a marketing usp. The frequency response across the whole range is very good, but these headphones are not exceptionally `bright' - the top end is detailed but not shrill. They are also very comfortable - you hardly know you have them on, and the self-adjusting headband seems to work well. However, the construction of headband is not hugely robust, and I would not use these as travel headphones. That said, in a `home' environment (that is, in the absence of traffic noise), these headphones sound superb.

My only reservation with these cans is the price. Forgetting the RRP, these are presently offered by Amazon just shy of seventy quid. At that price, I would probably be looking for a pair of Sennheiser's for `hi-fi' listening. If you can find an Amazon Local discount, or bundled with a Kindle, then these are worth a look.

5.0 out of 5 stars Remarkable clarity, 4 Sep 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
For a pair of headphones clearly aimed at the dance market, these cams are clear and detailed, enough for prolonged listening of classical music. Not an audiophile headphone, but for the £19.99 paid, fantastically good value. Also, reasonably robust for storage on the move, as well as light when on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Value, 23 Aug 2012

Works perfectly with my iPod Touch. Good sound quality; exceptionally so for the price. Play around with the iPod Touch EQ settings to taste, but these do reasonable justice to classical music on 'flat'.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid., 18 Mar 2012

Poorly manufactured. The film cell itself does not include Rowlf in shot. Does little to maintain the traditions of quality associated with The Muppets.

Sennheiser PMX 50 Street Earphones
Sennheiser PMX 50 Street Earphones

3.0 out of 5 stars An improvement over supplied iPod headphones..., 11 Jan 2011
...but disappointing as a Sennheiser headphone. They are okay - the clipless behind-the-neck design is comfortable and effective. However, the sound is both muddled and tinny - for a Sennheiser pair of headphones - and I won't be listening with these to classical music. They are unremarkable for pop and rock music; but are fine for audiobooks, and I'll be using the PMX50s for this purpose.

There is another perspective to this purchase. Including delivery, I paid [...] for my pair (and [...] sent them recording delivery). If you can buy a pair for this price, and are looking for an inexpensive upgrade from the supplied iPod headphones, these represent a five-start deal.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good album made golden by the bonus DVD, 7 July 2010
There has been a huge amount of hype about this album: the BBC, for instance, were almost fawning over what is a good CD, but not quite up there with "Light Years" and "Fever", which is what they would have you believe. Not all of the published reviews have been uncritical, but the various comments that "Aphrodite" has been segewayed to one continues mix, a la Price's production on Madonna's "Confessions of a Dance Floor", are not quite true: only two songs run into each other, although there is a certain continuity over the 43 minutes and 12 tracks of this album. Listen to the songs individually, and out of sequence: they stand up much better, and compare favourably with the best tracks on "Body Language" and "X".

The DVD, however, is an unreserved treat, and is worth the extra for the Special Edition. The concert performance is excellent, with Kylie being radiant, and delivering the three songs she is on stage for with great clarity and emotion. The behind the scenes docos, are good, and the one on the video shoot is a hoot (not least for Kylie's slight embarrassment at being at the centre of activity in LA on the day).

5.0 out of 5 stars Best viewed as well as listened to., 15 Jun 2010
This review is from: Further (Audio CD)
I was lucky enough to attend one of the Roundhouse gigs when the Chems tried out this material live. It was performed as a single piece, and the video projections were integral to the performance, complementing the music perfectly. This is the best Chemical Brothers album taken in its entirety (although everyone will have their favourites from their back catalogue), and to get the most out of the material, you should watch the back projections in synch as well: this is one special edition which is well worth investing in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why are you reading this review when you should be buying this expanded edition now!, 15 Jun 2010
I was fortunate to actually attend this Roundhouse gig; this expanded recording is a better representation of the original brilliance of the material with all four members of the "classic" line-up 1980-84, but also how they have matured as performers. It is a better record of the band at their strongest than any "best of" compilation ... although the DVD does remind you very graphically that their original success ended 25 years ago! Apparently there are only 300 copies of the expanded edition with the DVD: I wouldn't wait any longer, and suggest ordering this now!

4.0 out of 5 stars A great alternative to "Dury Lane", 17 May 2010
This review is from: Live! at City Center (Audio CD)
The Pythons suppressed the release of this album in the UK, arguing that it was too similar to the material on "Live at Dury Lane", and certainly there is a fair degree of overlap between the two. However, here you have a much fresher (and less polished) version of the Pythons on stage in the mid-1970s, and is more akin to the set from the "Hollywood Bowl" DVD. As "City Centre" can be purchased for less than four quid delivered via Market Place suppliers, it represents terrific value, and it's a great hour of humour as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice reminder, but beware of the recording quality, 17 May 2010
This review is from: The Mad Axeman Live (Audio CD)
These three concert recordings (the Japanese gig spans disks three and four) capture much of the energy and dynamism of MSG live in the early 1980s. For those of us who remember MSG gigging around this time, the box set is a nice memento; however, the recording quality is, at best, "unproduced". It depends on how you like your live recordings: polished after the event; or raw. This box set falls into the latter category.
