Bosch TDA2622 Sensixx BI steam iron White and green
Bosch TDA2622 Sensixx BI steam iron White and green
Price: 25.18

3.0 out of 5 stars Cheap, but cheerful?, 12 July 2014
Purchased this Bosch from our local value store for 20 to replace a Philips iron that I was finding a little too heavy. This is really a featherweight iron but with sufficient power for normal domestic laundering however, I have to agree with other reviewers that the cable is a little too short and that it does catch the wrist given it's angle where it leaves the back of the unit.
In my example, the sole plate seems not to glide easily over the clothing and with just one use is already discolouring. It also spits water when lifted from the board. Given these shortcomings it is being returned and I will try a different make.
This might be a good bet for light occasional use or indeed as a travel iron given it's lightweight construction but I doubt it's suitability in the long-term.

Dead Like Me - Season 2 [DVD]
Dead Like Me - Season 2 [DVD]
Dvd ~ Ellen Muth
Offered by Discs4all
Price: 14.66

5.0 out of 5 stars Goodbye George..., 11 July 2014
Season two continued to give a great account of itself as an original and witty series of those about to shuffle from this mortal coil, with a little help from the Reapers. Great stories and sublime acting, this is one show that American audiences let slip through their fingers and thus it ended with series two. Despite it's subject matter, Dead Like Me is a wickedly funny series and a great example of what television can achieve if allowed...just a shame the networks didn't realise what a gem they had.

5.0 out of 5 stars Has it all!, 11 July 2014
Even ten years on this is still one original show! If ever there was a cast so chosen that complimented not only the overall premise but one another, Dead Like Me had it. Special mention for Ellen Muth who's quirky characterisation was a pleasure to watch and, of course, Mandy Patankin who gave a solid performance and a touch of gravitas that was a delight. If you feel the need for something different give this a go, but be warned, you will want season 2 aswell.

SEIKO CK0170 LCD DESK ALARM clock
SEIKO CK0170 LCD DESK ALARM clock
Offered by Talking Watch Shop
Price: 27.95

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the better makes..., 8 July 2014
Firstly, this was not purchased from Amazon. If memory serves me correctly it was obtained from a jewellery store over 8 years ago and has been in constant use ever since! Powered by two AA batteries it seems to keep power forever especially if Duracells are used, and it looks as good today as when it was removed from it's box. The display hasn't suffered any fading or bleed and all facilities function normally. The snooze/light pad is prominent on top of the clock and it's great having a temperature gauge that works. Main numerals are approximately 1.25 inches tall so are easy to read. The buttons on the rear of the clock for setting might be considered a little small, but the majority will only be used to reset after a battery change.
I was surprised to see that this clock is still made but I guess it's a case of "if it 'aint broke, don't fix it". When mine is in need of replacing, I would not hesitate to buy it again.

Braun Oral-B Vitality Precision Clean Rechargeable Toothbrush
Braun Oral-B Vitality Precision Clean Rechargeable Toothbrush
Price: 17.45

4.0 out of 5 stars Braun Oral B, 8 July 2014
An efficient and workman like brush, no fancy gimmicks but no charging indicator either. I got mine from a local supermarket at a significantly reduced price so it pays to shop around. I leave mine on charge but make a point of running it flat about every 6 months and this seems to have no detrimental effect on how the battery performs. The inbuilt timer works well and warns over potential over brushing.
A little like razor blades, Braun makes their money out of the replacement brushes which are ridiculously priced for a mass produced item so I have tried some of the cheaper variants from Amazon and to be honest, they have not been too bad at all, so although they may not last as long, they work out less expensive in the long run.

Masterplug Indoor Power MSWRG3-MP 3-Socket 13 amp Surge Protected Adaptor (White)
Masterplug Indoor Power MSWRG3-MP 3-Socket 13 amp Surge Protected Adaptor (White)
Price: 6.67

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have!, 8 July 2014
I have owned this adaptor socket/surge protector for a number of years and it hasn't missed a beat. All switches work positively and neon lights still function as they should. This is a neat solution to add surge protection without going for a trailing socket type of unit and seems very well made. Mine protects a Hi Fi system with an attached Ipod Touch and a Bluetooth receiver. If positioned to the left it doesn't obscure the adjacent socket for a normal plug. For anyone with expensive electronics I would say that one of these is a must.

Oblivion [DVD] [2013]
Oblivion [DVD] [2013]
Dvd ~ Tom Cruise
Price: 5.00

4.0 out of 5 stars Visually stunning Sci Fi, 7 July 2014
This review is from: Oblivion [DVD] [2013] (DVD)
A well crafted storyline and a visual treat from start to finish. Oblivion may be a tad too long but it never fails to entertain even down to it's score by M83. Post apocalypse Earth was well portrayed but the script fell short of mustering empathy for the survivors which is perhaps the films biggest shortcoming. Quality of the DVD was excellent when upscaled and with convincing acting all round this made an enjoyable Sunday evening watch, and good enough for repeat play in the future.

Iron Sky (Blu-ray + Digital Copy)
Iron Sky (Blu-ray + Digital Copy)
Dvd ~ Julia Dietze
Offered by Get It on TV
Price: 19.45

3.0 out of 5 stars Any old iron...., 30 Jun 2014
Not really clever enough as a satire and not funny enough for a comedy, Iron Sky struggles to pigeon hole itself from the start. For a budget movie it does well on the effects and costume front and I really liked the Wagner inspired soundtrack but overall it falls down in entertainment. I managed to get this for only 5 from the supermarket so if you think this might appeal, shop round first.

Akai A51001 Compact DVD Player with USB Port
Akai A51001 Compact DVD Player with USB Port
Price: 27.92

4.0 out of 5 stars Cheap and cheerful, 27 Jun 2014
We purchased this for our daughter as a stop gap measure, for 20 from our local B and M store. Although she has a flat screen plasma, it has no HDMI inputs so this, with it's scart output was ideal. It plays without problem, even discs of questionable lineage, and gives a reasonable playback quality both in terms of picture and sound. Ours is even multi region straight out of the box although the Amazon description quotes it as region two only. This is a small unit and it has no display of it's own...it displays on the connected TV instead. The remote is a bit tacky but works well enough.
We haven't tried the USB facility so can make no comment on this, but for what was paid, if it lasts for the 12 months it's still a bit of a bargain.

Revo HERITAGE DAB FM Wi-Fi Internet Radio with integral iPod Dock - Black Finish
Revo HERITAGE DAB FM Wi-Fi Internet Radio with integral iPod Dock - Black Finish

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, 27 Jun 2014
This radio was purchased direct from Revo Outlet, and i went for the black oak finish. It arrived double boxed with it's original box beneath, all new accessories, manual, guarantee card etc. It's condition was immaculate, indistinguishable from a new unit, and the black oak against aluminium looks superb.
I set the radio up without the help of the manual and everything was up and running in minutes. Unlike some reviewers, I find the buttons and joystick a pleasure to use, although admittedly, I have thin fingers, and the graduation on the volume control is just right, and mutes the radio at it's lowest setting.
The tone of the radio is sheer quality, helped by the wooden side cheeks and solid front and back panels. There are preset equaliser settings plus one which can be tailored by the user.
I was surprised at the quantity of in and outputs at the rear of the radio and have connected the set to a pair of active Bose speakers with a twin phono lead for an even bigger soundstage...it sounds wonderful no matter which source is sellected (DAB, Internet Radio or Ipod), but will use it's own speaker for less intent listening.
When an Ipod is docked, the display shows artist and album info, and while perhapse the size of letters may be small, it is very distinct against the black screen, also it will not be over bright for bedroom use unlike some other units.
The radio connects easily to my Sky router, be the radio upstairs or down.
As you might guess, I am delighted with this radio, and providing it stands the test of time, have no hesitation in recommending it to all.
