3.0 out of 5 stars NOT for power drills!, 11 Aug. 2015
To all the folks who mention using this in a power drill and bits flying off - the item description clearly states it's for use with a HAND BRACE. Not a power drill, and that the max RPM is 500.

DO NOT use this in a power drill!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very clear, concise book that gives you the fundamentals..., 11 Aug. 2014

I really enjoyed this book and felt it got me the information I needed quickly and easily and clearly explaining concepts like shadow and rain/sea clutter as well as why shores don't always look like they do on the map on a radar.

The only disappointment was the back of the book included a code for getting money of a Radar Simulator package for PC - but the code didn't work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, good service, clean floors., 11 Aug. 2014

This review is from: RoboVac XD Robot Vacuum Cleaner
This thing is brilliant! Let it out each day and as long as you have short pile carpets or wood floors it will keep them pretty clean. You'll need to run a vac round every now and then still, but much less often.

Also it's fun and surprisingly cute.

The mop pad clips on the bottom. It's basically just a microfibre pad that the machine rubs along the floor - that said it works quite well.Floors look good after this has been round but it can't always get into corners so it won't replace vaccing completely. It doesn't like tassles on rugs or anything long pile.

The remote takes two AAAs and works great - you can drive the little guy around to where you want him or to make him focus on a particular area using the joystick. The virtual wall takes two C batteries, and again, it works. The touchscreen is really just flush buttons that are lit up with symbols - but it's easy to use and clear.

The front of the machine has two rotating brushes to sweep dirt in under the suction. On ours these stopped working. I took the advice in the box and phoned Paramount Zone who sold it to us. They diagnosed the problem and agreed to get the machine repaired - but when I requested it they were happy to just send the parts and even a video on how to fit them. After taking the machine apart and putting it back together again my impression is it's very well made and I'm relieved to know spares are available. We'd really miss him if he broke!

I haven't had the more expensive main brand - but I really don't see what it can do that this guy doesn't do brilliantly!

Update: 3 months in - just as delighted and no problems to report.

I was cynical about how well this would work - but actually it does. I hit it with a pretty heavy hammer, but every single crimp has been tight. For the price and for an occasional user (such as boat owners like me) - this is a must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I was hoping for..., 31 Oct. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this so I could make a coffee in the morning and drink it on the way to work. For that it works perfectly.

Highlights:

*Feels solid and high quality.
*Brown holder thing comes off for cleaning.
*Mug rinses clean REALLY easily.
*Screw top lid nice and secure.
*Keeps the drink hot much longer than a standard paper cup.

Drawbacks:

*Isn't spill proof. But as it says does slow spills - the coffee can only get out of the little hole at the top like any coffee shop cup and lid.

*Doesn't keep things hot anywhere near as long as a proper thermos would.

Darker blue than the picture but in other respects exactly what you expect. Strong, sticky, easy to tear off the reel, fix anything.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful alternative view, 22 Oct. 2012

I've read a few books of this type and most are utterly critical of the airbus fly by wire model. This book is the opposite. While accepting that it can create issues, it also highlights the part that FBW paid in helping the miracle on the hudson happen. Not to mention the number of incidents that never began because the plane prevented a pilot from making a human error.

It doesn't criticise Sully or the crew in anyway, or take away from their achievement, but it does provide context around it and show the part that good design played in the successful outcome.

A good read and a welcome change from all the books that ignore the positives of FBW and focus only on the negatives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Quality, 28 Sept. 2012

This thing is massive, but the biggest surprise was the quality. It goes together really well, and it's very sturdy. A lot more so than some more expensive cat trees I've owned. The cat seems to be getting to like it too.

For the price it has to get 5 stars, but I would say that the top little house and the baskets are perhaps a bit small for larger cats.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perhaps life at sea isn't as romantic as it seems..,, 28 Sept. 2012

This review is from: Freighter Captain (Kindle Edition)
This is a gripping and slightly uncomfortable read. Max doesn't always write it in a way to make him seem likeable. He makes it clear that he's not above hurting someone who gets in the ship's way. But he does manage to portray that to an extent that is what the business is like, and that to do his job, it is necessary. There is always someone trying to steal from the ship and crew in some way, whether that's an owner who won't pay, a poor local desperate for something to sell, or nature herself wanting the ship back where it came from.

He does make himself seem pretty infallible, doesn't seem to make many mistakes, but perhaps the narrative is lightly idealised. Or perhaps he was just doing it too long.

In any case - it's a really good read and paints a deep and colourful picture of the life of a small freighter in Haitian waters.

Definitely worth a look.
