1.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for about a week, 10 Jan 2011
The packaging and delivery was great, the boots were gorgeous and the price is good, but these boots lasted all of two weeks before they absolutely fell apart. The main problem is the glue between the sole and the shoe - its barely there. There is no point wasting money on these shoes: I loved them but was just so disappointed.

Also (and this is especially relevant if you, like me, live in England)they stop being waterproof about as quickly as they stop being shoe shaped. It's not a show without a sole, my friends. I'm sorry to ruin a beautiful design with the sad truth, but I wouldn't even chance them. It's just not worth is for the terrible quality.

2.0 out of 5 stars Simply good., 17 Sep 2008

Well, its alright. You look at the cast, scan the storyline and you mind is reeling with the possibilities of so many great and funny actors behind one movie. To a certain extent it works, there are laughs and lovely moments to giggle happily about, but it's really not that good a film. Rent it, watch it, enjoy it for what it is - just don't buy it.

The plot is possibly the worst element of the film and might be to blame. While most people are happy to suspend a certain amount of belief you kind of start to feel like they are taking the mick. There were good intentions behind it but realy it becomes a case of people not recognising people they were talking to a few hours before under the pretence that that wig actually works.

The acting is surprisingly dissapointing...i hate to be, but i have to be honest - Micheal's Caine and Gambon both give truly mediocre performances. Whether this is down to script, characterisation or delivery it is hard to tell, but both are distinctly uninspiring. However, the rest of the cast who are perhaps lesser known, such as Lena Headey do well under the circumstances, and the highest praise goes to Abigail Iverson (one hell of a nine year old actress) and to Dylan Moran. Moran runs circles around his co-star, portraying a varied character who manages what good characters do and sidles quietly into the backroom of your heart without you even noticing. Suddenly you are holding your breath for his happy ending and so i credit both of the stars i have given to him.

The score is lovely, the acting varied - Moran shines in this, unrecognised as he is, and it should have worked. Sadly it lacks something - it is difficult to pinpoint what, and i am afraid i will have to be obscure and merely observe that it lacks a heart. Maybe it was luck, or sparkle or magic or something but it just misses the mark and so i'm afraid it is nice, but not much more.

Still, i would recommend watching it - it is partially funny and there is quite a sweetness behind the characters that appeals greatly. It is not groundbreaking, hilarious, amazing, breath-taking or brilliant, but simply good - i suppose that is enough on some days.

3.0 out of 5 stars One of those films..., 13 Oct 2007
The Quick and the Dead is a typical shoot-em-up western and for this simple reason is quite a lot of fun. Not the greatest film in the world but enjoyable for what it is. It's also one of those films that, no matter how much you did or did not like it the first time, you will have cravings within days to watch it again...for no obvious reason. A good film but not a great film, its hollowed out scripting being pushed forward by its commendable casting. Notably Russel Crowe gives a grand performance as Cort. Worth watching, if only to say you've seen it. Fun and interesting - you might not even mind the predictability - i recommend watching it and then buying it if it suites you.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOOOOOOOVE this film!, 22 Aug 2007
This review is from: Drop Dead Fred [DVD] [1991] (DVD)
Drop dead fred is an absolutly fantastic film. I can't even remember how i heard about it - i was born a year after it was even released - but whatever it was that sparked an interest only happened recently. I read lots of reveiws without having seen more than half anf hour of the film and found them all to be dissapointing, all pointing out the flaws and negatives - which, having bought it and now looking back, i cant seem to find in this film.

The hilarious portrayal of Fred by Rik Mayall was fantastic - both brilliantly funny and also amazingly touching when it's needed. Pheobe Cates hits the character of Lizzie perfectly and just brings the tone of the film into something great. And you really have to have a respect for any actor who can keep a straight face when Rik Mayall is hopping about infront of them :o)

I do have something...not a problem...but perhaps a hinderance, i have spotted with this film. You have to have some sort of connecion with being a have to be able to embrace how fun this film is and too many people, it seems, are so focused on how things should be and how things are in their reality that they cant just let go and love the humour and love in this film! I feel that even though the reception of this film seemed to bomb, for anyone who felt it as it was supposed to have been seen they will always hold thias film dear to them.

If you are a fan of Rik, if you like to laugh or if you think you still have the spark left that is echoed in this film then you NEED to see it! And if you dont you should see it anyway and it might help bring it back. There is a very good chance you'll end up falling in love with this film just as i have.x
