2.0 out of 5 stars At least half a size too big., 24 Oct 2014

Liked the style but the fit was totally different to all the other Merrells I've had. It was at least half a size too big - too much to just sort out with thicker socks. Had to return them.

Lovely book that really does justice to Moy's work - although it is very difficult to capture the beauty of the real thing! Seller should have used a slightly larger envelope in preference to curling up the sides of the book, but it should flatten out.

Clarks Funny Dream, Women's Lace-Up Shoes
Clarks Funny Dream, Women's Lace-Up Shoes
Price: £46.90 - £99.95

5.0 out of 5 stars A great revival, 24 July 2014
Both myself and my husband had these as school shoes c1980 (when they were sold as Clarks' Polyveldts I think). I got a pair in white a couple of years ago but we couldn't find any men's versions - Clarks need to bring them out for men again! When I got an orange pair at the Oxford St store, the assistant suggested my husband tried the next size up for him and it was a perfect fit. He takes an 8 so got a 9 in purple, and they are much admired. Very, very comfortable shoes and a good price too. Fit suits slightly wider than average feet.

Like Kodansha's "Japan - A Bilingual Atlas" this is slightly quirky to follow, but the best I've found. We will be taking it on our next trip to Tokyo.

2.0 out of 5 stars The page size is completely wrong in the description., 12 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The actual page size is 13.4 x 19cm, not as stated. I wanted a score I could play from without needing a magnifying glass! I have other small Eulenburg scores but the description fooled me into thinking this had a much larger page size and (therefore) staves that could be read easily with the book on a music stand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard copy v Kindle edition, 25 Dec 2012

This is an extensive book on patchwork bag making and the hard copy i.e. print version of it is a lovely book. However, I wonder just how well it would work on the Kindle format, as the instructions include full size patterns for many of the bags featured. You may find a print copy is more use!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, 2 Nov 2011
There are lots of terrific reviews of this book already, so I'll just add my two penn'orth - Lin is also the technical editor of many, many bestselling quilting and needlecraft books, including those by Lyn Edwards Lynne Edwards' New Sampler Quilt Book: Twenty Techniques for Machines and Hand Patchwork, Pam & Nicky Lintot Jelly Roll Sampler Quilts: 10 Stunning Quilts to Make from 50 Patchwork Blocks, myself (Susan Briscoe)21 Sensational Patchwork Bags: From the Best-selling Author of 21 Terrific Patchwork Bags,The Ultimate Sashiko Sourcebook: Patterns, Projects and Inspirations, Barbara Chainey Fast Quilts from Fat Quarters, etc. etc. (take a peek at the back of the title page of other D & C books you may have) so she has a fantastic eye for detail, instructive text and easy-to-read diagrams. Her book was bound to be a very comprehensive and easty to use guide to patchwork and quilting. A lot of the 'eye candy' items scattered throughout the book are from other books in the D & C back catalogue, so if there's something you want to make and the instructions aren't included here, check which book/author it's from and you should be able to get hold of the instructions.

5.0 out of 5 stars A delivery delay - please read!, 17 Sep 2010
I'm the author of this book. We found out today that there has been a delay getting the books (printed in China I think) into the UK - the books should have been in the distributor's warehouse by Tuesday, but haven't arrived. The publishers have been chasing this today and apparently there has been a delay and the new delivery date given is October 1st - this could vary a little either way, due to Customs etc.

Books printed in China are shipped by sea, usually taking up to two months from departure to arrival.

Of course, this means that there are NO copies of this book available in the UK until this shipment arrives - other bookshops will not have it either.

So if you have ordered your copy, either via Amazon or via me, many apologies for the delay in getting your copy of the book. Please wait as patiently as you can - if you enjoyed "Japanese Quilt Blocks to Mix and Match" or just love the Japanese taupe fabrics, I think you'll enjoy this all new block selection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fact, not Fiction!, 27 May 2007
This review is from: Geisha (Paperback)
This is a very interesting book that gives a valuable insight into the world of geisha. As a more accessible text based on an anthropologist's study, it achieves an in depth look at history, tradition and the geisha world of thirty years ago from the point of view of an outsider who became accepted into the Pontocho community. It is well written and presented in a format that can be dipped in and out of with ease, with excellent notes, glossary and indexing.

Unlike some other reviewers on this page, I have read and re-read this book, and frequently use it for reference. The background information about such topics as the different geisha districts in Kyoto, geisha names etc. is excellent in helping the reader's greater understanding of the subject.

I would recommend following up this book by reading the autobiography "Geisha of Gion", by Mineko Iwasaki, which is a highly personal account by the leading geisha of the 1960s, in contrast to Dalby's more objective study.

Readers, please remember that Arthur Golden's "Memoirs of a Geisha" is fiction! If you are looking for "racy" fiction, full of vague details about "oriental life", this is NOT the book for you...
