I love Tanita Tikaram and couldn't wait for this to come out way back in 2005. On first listening I thought it was her worst album, tuneless jazz dross. I stuck with it for a few more listens but no, only Don't Let The Cold stood out. Disappointed was not the word. Six years later I put it on as back ground music while I was working and some of those "tuneless" tunes must have stuck. I played it again and again and again. I couldn't believe why I didn't like the album first time round. It's absolutely beautiful and possibly one of my top 10 albums of the noughties. Don't concentrate on it too hard, just let it wash all over you, you will be rewarded. Simply gorgeous.

I had never heard of this band and bought this album on the strength of their performance on Jools Holland's Hootenany at the end of last year which was so different it blew me away. All the songs are delightfully catchy with a slight 80's feel but it feels so fresh and new. Well done girls. A magnificent album

4.0 out of 5 stars Feeling of disappointment, 26 Nov 2013

For the Dave Edmunds fan this must feel like a disappointment. It contains no less than 7 tracks from the brilliant Plugged In album (still available) and a couple that could easily be got from Hand Picked Musical Fantasies. In saying that the music is brilliant with the instrumental Your Song surprisingly good. A true new album would have been much more appreciated as there are loads of rock n roll songs that could be enhanced by the Dave Edmunds treatment. At least it is better than re-recording his previous hits which I hope he never does.

5.0 out of 5 stars Albert Hammond - Hit Machine, 12 Nov 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A wonderful live album showcasing the many hits Albert wrote for other artists who include Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Chicago, The Carpenters, Whitney Houston, Starship as well as many others. Unbelievably he only had one solo UK hit with the magnificent "Free Electric Band". He did however release five excellent albums in the 1970s which are still all available and should be explored. Since then his solo output has been sparodic with the highlight being 2005's Revolution Of The Heart. Go on, try this album. I'm not a huge fan of live albums but this one hits the spot. Brilliant!

5.0 out of 5 stars Full of purple ones!, 28 Oct 2013

An excellent companion to 2011's awesome "The Old Magic". Although the majority of these tracks are either traditional or cover versions recorded in Lowe's wonderful laid back style, there are still two corking Lowe originals with "Christmas At The Airport" being outstanding. Buy it, it's probably the second best Christmas album around (Jim Reeves' "12 Songs Of Christmas" will never be beaten).

5.0 out of 5 stars Glorious second from Eliza, 14 Oct 2013

I love her first album which is filled with quirky / catchy tunes (slightly reminiscent of Lily Allen) and have been waiting impatiently for this release. The single "Big When I Was Little" is more representative of that first album. This second album seems to be more mature while retaining strong melodic tunes. Highlights include "Hush", "In Your Hands", "Checkmate", "Team Player", "Make Up Sex" and "Let It Rain". A really great album from the best young female artist around at the moment. Wonderful.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite as bad as most people think, 20 Sep 2013

To compare this with anything Elton recorded between 1970 and 1978 would be just wrong as very few artists were able to match or better that output. The main problem with this is the sound which is now so dated but don't forget this album sounded fresh when first released in 1986. The two singles "Heartache..." and "Slow Rivers" are very weak which is probably why the album failed miserably. It does however contain absolute blinding tracks in "Hoop Of Fire" and "I Fall Apart" which would have faired better than the two mentioned if released as singles. Other highlights include "Gypsy Heart" and "Angeline" which is why I think the album as a whole is better than his previous effort "Ice On Fire". And finally the album cover is terrible but not as bad as it's back cover (from the original LP).

4.0 out of 5 stars Potentially brilliant, 7 May 2013

Although this album does sound under-produced and more like a collection of demos bar a few, notably the single and Shrink, it still contains a fine array of songs and is certainly a welcome, but long overdue, addition to the Ant catalogue. My initial thought was that Adam had made a huge mistake in releasing the album in this state but after seeing him live (absolutely awesome) I have played this non stop and am starting to love it. Highlights include Cradle Your Hatred, Shrink, Sausage, Punkyoungirl and How Can I Say I Miss You? It would definitely have been a 5 star album if someone like Tony Visconti was at the desk.

I bought this on the day of release and have played it more than any other release by any other artist since probably the 1980's. It's not very often now that an album gives that spine tingling shiver of enjoyment in the way this does. It's also not that often when you see an artist live that you want him to play the majority of his new album (which he did thankfully). There are so many highlights and three wonderful, but simple, videos for "Sensitive Man", "House For Sale" and "Stoplight Roses".

This is quite possibly in my top ten albums of all time, it's that good, honestly.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bowie's worst musical direction, 13 April 2013
This review is from: Earthling (Audio CD)
I've always loved the fact that no two albums of David Bowie were the same but often there was a track on one which gave an indication where the next album would lead. This is no exception as the album version of Hallo Spaceboy would have fit nicely on this album. The problem is I don't like the Drum 'n Bass sound. I find it too cluttered and to be honest, an absolute mess. It's a real pity as buried beneath this clatter are some really good melodic songs such as The Last Thing You Should Do, Seven Years In Tibet and Little Wonder. I would loved to have heard this album in demo form as I think it would have sounded much better than the finished article. Thankfully he ditched this sound and has since produced four top notch albums as well as the wonderful, but yet to be released, Toy album.
