Years In The Wall
Years In The Wall
Price: £11.02

4.0 out of 5 stars Dreamy, 8 Jan 2010
This review is from: Years In The Wall (Audio CD)
"Years in the wall' is certainly a undiscovered treat and hopefully more people will discover the dream like quality of Sidewaytown.. if not your really missing out.

Full of musical layers, soundscapes and textures influences from shoegaze, pop, rock and everything else this cd is a musical journey, and sort of album anyone can really appreciate and enjoy. It works as a concept album following the life of a young man named Gorden who discovers a family secret.... wont say any more. hopefully this story continues with future albums.

Number of songs are just instant classics 'Beautiful accident, put your sun the in corner, sorry for the bad view and the fine print' are all superb, there really isn't anything on here worth skipping all the material is solid and guides us though this story.

The foundations are built for future albums and if Sidewaytown keep up the high quality theres no telling were they are going.
Press play sit back put your feet up and relax...
you've had a busy day you deserve it.. welcome to sidewaytown.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth a look., 8 Jan 2010
This review is from: 9 (Nine) [DVD] (DVD)
Considering this was a independent low budget animated film of the highest quality and is Shane's first featuer film direction it makes all those big studio productions some what embarrassing, The Animation alone is fascinating.

It's a simple story, with not a huge amount of character development but then theres a reason for it as theses dolls make up part of the scientists soul. Theres so much attention to details theres enough to keep coming back for several viewings.
And it has a fantastic ending leaving you full of wonder and mystery.

Two things wrong, First is a bit too short, while it's not worth adding stuff for the sake of it i felt it needed just a little bit more time to push the story a bit, build up more tension and learn a bit more about our hero's. The other thing it film can't decide if it wants to be mature and appeal to adults or Teens. It kinda stuck in between swinging form one to the other but it was grand effort to try and make a modern CG film with a bit more punch and seriousness.
Nice soundtrack too.

Rating should be 4.5 but I'll add the extra half for DVD content. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth picking up for fans, 18 July 2008
This should interest both Burton and Elfman fans.
But a tribute cd played by an Orchestra of Orchestrated music doesn't sound all that exciting or different however there are a a number of positives.

For a start is great hearing the Sweeney Todd without the vocals even though the main theme sounds alittle flat the rest makes up for it.
I felt there was to much batman (12 minutes + Batman returns) especially when Plant of the apes and Big Fish had been overlooked.

The piano solos from Corpse bride work very well together, A *slightly* different take on Beetlejuice was a treat while the rest is all pretty decent, Not as much percussing on theses recordings then the real ones which makes them a lot more softer and quieter.. having that 'what lurks behind feeling'. Only real weak point is probably Ed wood which is identical to the original but like the ST theme its just too flat.

Its over 60 minutes long, the sleeve had an interesting article written but the chap who put this tribute together..

Burton and Elfman fans should get a kick form hearing theses slightly inferiorly and different take on those fantastic pieces of music. casual fans probably wont get that much from this.

Nice Tribute!

5.0 out of 5 stars Eccentric Cure.. more than usual, 16 Jun 2008
This review is from: Freakshow (Mix 13) (Audio CD)
Wont get any complaints from me.
The Cure are still making enjoyable yet eccentric tunes.
A more playful song this time on the lines of Lullaby or lovecats i guess. Extremely catchy. but its far to short at two and a half minutes.
If this doesn't get you going then nothing will.

B-side is as expected.. a typical outtake, good but not great you can hear why it was cut from the album its just not good enough but it is a quality b-side, Heavy and aggressive.

The self titled album was fantastic and hard to beat but if theses singles are a reflection on the new record I'll be a happy chappy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Defending the movie, 28 Dec 2007
Just trying to defend this movie for a moment.
I'm reading to many bad/unjustified reviews.. What did you want to writers, directors and produces to do with a 25 minute cartoon thats been on the air for 15 odd years.. every story has been told, every character has been developed, every gag has been done, every plot done. so sure with seen it before.. id like to see you do better!
the fact the Simpsons are so BIG everyones written a Simpson movie script.

It was great to see every character there.. even if they were just in the background, you can't expect all those 100s of characters to play a big role..if any, it was just great to see they were acknowledged.

the amount of work, effort that when in to this is just incredibale..it would have been VERY difficult to come up with something new and fresh after it has been going for 15 odd years.. they did a bang up job however and while it wasn't new it seemed fresh.
Dvd was lacking in extras but i noticed some of the 'seasons box' have had them.

My only complaint is that Green day were in it.. gee what a horrible choice, a bunch of nobody's, representing nothing that produce awful music.. at least they were good sports.
And whats wrong with spider-pig? watch one of the episodes and note down how many times something pointless happens, Pointless but ties in somehow.

Excellent movie, Well done team.

5.0 out of 5 stars I liked it., 2 Jan 2006
Simon is much more fun in 3d, it opens up his world to a whole alot more.. lucky it wasn't a copy of the 1st two Simon's games.. other wise we would have being board to death by its repetitive style. With this new 3d world and style of gaming Simon has much more to sink his teeth into, I do agree the graphics are poor.. but its not about graphics is it? I had no problems running the game, and loading times are fast.
So if graphics are more important to you than game-play this isn't for you.. and if your looking for a game thats exactly like the originals then look elsewhere.. because you'll be out off by the added tasks.. which personally i think bring alot more to Simon's world.

5.0 out of 5 stars For Burton fans, 5 July 2005
Brilliant new book, featuring some great interview and moments in Burton's career. While the book may mean nothing to some it will be a real treat to Burton fans and fits in perfectly with the other Tim Burton books available as we can read the interviews in full. It also helps give an idea about who Burton is and what is like in real life, Reading the way he answers the questions and speaks.
Also features the transcript of the interview and answering fan questions at the museum of moving images.
Great read.

The only full Hitting birth album on cd.
Good standard rock music. nothing fancy, quite brutal in parts.. songs go from a hard hitting rock with a mild quite peace half way thought.. keeps you listening.
Has those moments that make you wish the whole albums sounded like that, at least you can hear where King black acid came from. worth checking out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mix of this and that, 5 July 2005
Before Danial Riddle gave us King black acid he was performing with this 1st band 'Hitting Birth Family circus' While most of there material is on cassettes and vinyls they did put out two Cd's.
This one being a mix of b-sides, remixes and live tracks.
On the whole it's worth a listen and the songs that stand out are good enough to buy the record for, 'Mayberry LSDNA' 'love me' 'water' and 'Happy Just To Be Again' and 'GNMI' just ashame the other tracks were a waste.

Loves a Long Song

5.0 out of 5 stars From the Wombstar to the Starseed, 5 July 2005
This review is from: Loves a Long Song (Audio CD)
While the band had many member changes, and wrote theses before going into the studio (a kba 1st) also brought on a change of sound and a slightly change in the bands full title.
King black acid 'Loves a long song' let the songs are much shorted then they have been performing. Hear we have proper structured songs, Pop/indi/rock very enjoyable, extremely good.
The albums still has those moments of Blazing Guitars and long space jams in parts, and full vocal content this time to.
'Ive heard you still alive' and 'real love/feels good' are the highlights here.
