Stefan Grossman's Early Masters of American Blues Guitar: Blind Blake, Book & CD
Stefan Grossman's Early Masters of American Blues Guitar: Blind Blake, Book & CD
by Stefan Grossman
Edition: Paperback
Price: 10.53

4.0 out of 5 stars Typical Grossman, 7 May 2014
It appears Beth Kalet has discovered a new key! C Flat.

All Grossman's transcriptions have their strengths and weaknesses. Takes 5 mins to get used to the now very widely copied and sensible tab system, Biggest criticism is the partial transcription of some songs. I suspect this is because Grossman thinks that if you have got so far you should /ought to be capable of filling in the rest for yourself. Regrettably that doesn't apply to me and i suspect most other delta/country finger pickers..We are not pro musicians.

Still one won't find any better guide to BB.

Children of the Revolution: The 21st DCI Banks Mystery (Inspector Banks 21)
by Peter Robinson
Edition: Paperback
Price: 7.43

5.0 out of 5 stars Kept me page turning, 23 April 2014
First Peter Robinson I've read (in contrast to reading all Rankin, McDermid, James etc ). Obviously up there with the best. Loved the plot, location, characterisation and writing style Kept me turning the pages as fast as I could read and can't wait to read more. Robinson

The Siege Of Krishnapur
The Siege Of Krishnapur

Edition: Paperback
Price: 8.36

5.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't get any better than this, 13 April 2014
I rarely read anything twice (so many books, so little time)...but for this made an exception . It is a classic.. a masterpiece lesson in good writing, fascinating characters, a plot to hold attention and a story worth reading. No wonder it was voted best Booker winner of all time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but, 6 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
No doubt Jungr has a great voice and the arrangements are also good, if a little samey. Doesn't venture a great deal from her past approaches to Dylan. Whilst ,as far as I am aware, this is her first recorded cover of Cohen songs, hence I expected some older ones but there's more imagination than this, I'm a bit disappointed that all the Dylan covers bar one are from the 60s..I'd like to have heard her interpret some later ones.

Tracks are Blowin in the Wind, Everybody Knows, Who by Fire?, , Hard Rain, First We Take Manhatten, Masters of War, It's Alright Ma, 1000 Kisses Deep, Gotta Serve Somebody, Land of Plenty, Chimes of Freedom.

Disability Discrimination: Law and Case Management
Disability Discrimination: Law and Case Management
by Karen Jackson
Edition: Paperback
Price: 59.95

4.0 out of 5 stars Filling the gaps, 6 April 2014
This is a very readable account of the law on disability discrimination and litigation case management. The practical experience of the authors in applying the law shines through the text bridging the gap between dry legal reference books and more popular attempts to describe the employment tribunal system to lay readers. As such it is suitable for legal practitioners, students and lay readers alike. I would strongly recommend to anyone contemplating bringing a disability claim before a tribunal. The book is also well referenced. If I have any criticism it is that the role of ACAS in settling claims needs to be brought out. The introduction of fees, and the convoluted process of applying for exemption, has seen a massive downturn in individual claims and it is not the authors' fault that this has followed their writing of the book but financial support for (potential) claimants is another matter that needs to be addressed. This is still the best book I've read putting together the law with employment tribunal practice.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you only buy one, 1 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Dave Van Ronk, this is the one.

Always regarded the man as a rough diamond...but having read Mayor of and llstened to more of his recordings he was far more than this and I've allowed his gravelly voice to understate his musicality and the quality of his playing, never mind the excellent choice of material He was a very accomplished artist and no wonder he was a mainstay of the Greenwich Village set. (and no wonder Dylan nicked his material).

3.0 out of 5 stars Almost, not quite, 1 April 2014
This review is from: Rubbernecker (Paperback)
I know the cliche but I was expecting something far darker from the cover. Found the story interesting but never thrilling or suspenseful. Indeed the crime turned out to be much less than gruesome.and I was completely turned off by the dialogue of the comatose. What did hold it together was the main character, Patrick. supported by some other well drawn actors, such as Meg and Lexi. Good enough to interest me in reading more of Belinda Bauer but not worthy of the lickspittle reviews.

Price: 27.45

5.0 out of 5 stars A master on a master, 21 Mar 2014

It's a matter of preference if you prefer Stefan Grossman or Ernie Hawkins..former has more intinate knowledge but, in my view, the latter is a better teacher.

Buy all, then get divorced and go an live on a desert island for several years whilst learning to play at this standard, def not for beginnners.

Given the proximity of the Lakes and Dales this beautiful bit of country doen't get walked as much as elsewhere (also down in measure to some iniqiutous private ownership of huge tracts of land). However this fantastic guide will enable anyone to plan a great day...indeed, if you have a dog, this guide is a must as some of the b****** landkeepers wiil have a pot even if he dog is on a lead (dogs simply not allowed in large areas).

Whilst you have to be good to follow and play this stuff (at least intermediate standard) the passion inspires..and if a beginner it's something to aspire towards.
