4.0 out of 5 stars how the british empire illustrates globalisation, 18 Mar. 2012
excellent! short enough, easy to read, and not a boring "history of" the british empire
rather, NF uses the empire as an example to speak about the birth and growth of globalisation, through themes rather than chronology - i learnt new stuff at every page and was thoroughly entertained
great for travel or holiday!

not for the specialist, but that's why it's worth getting!

India, China, Russia: Intricacies of an Asian Triangle
India, China, Russia: Intricacies of an Asian Triangle
by Gilles Boquerat
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £30.99

3.0 out of 5 stars very interesting but mainly about the 80s, 18 Mar. 2012
great to understand the inter-relationships between these 3 key powers in the new centre of the world, as usually we look at each of them vs US or Europe...
perfect background to understand the past and some of the present, but would need to be updated and ideally include Turkey, another key player for the middle east and central europe...

House of Cards: How Wall Street's Gamblers Broke Capitalism
House of Cards: How Wall Street's Gamblers Broke Capitalism
by William D. Cohan
Edition: Paperback
Price: £12.08

2.0 out of 5 stars just about bear sterns, 18 Mar. 2012
very disappointed as i was expecting a full story about the financial crisis, but this is only about bear sterns' fall. the story in itself is finished after the first 3rd, then he goes on to give some background about all of the senior BS executives, some history about the firm, etc...
read it only if you want a great level of detail about this specific point, but if you're looking for a more generic telling of the crisis then read something else.
