Rick Frost & the Alaskan Adventure
Rick Frost & the Alaskan Adventure
by Todd Bush
Edition: Paperback
Price: 5.33

4.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Debut Novel with Non-Stop Action, 18 Jan 2014
Rick Frost and the Alaskan Adventure is the first in a new series of adventure books featuring likeable 14 year old Rick Frost and I thought it was a terrific debut novel. The story centres on why and who would want to kill a 16 year old Hollywood actress by shooting down her plane and hunting her. Rick and his friend Ben save the life of the ungrateful and spoilt Alexis and travel deep into the Alaskan wilderness while a team of mercenaries with automatic weapons pursue them.

Thanks to Rick's knowledge of the terrain they try to outwit them while Alexis annoys him teasing him about being so young and constantly moaning about having no food while climbing up and down hills. Their bickering and put-downs were a fun element to the storyline and I enjoyed following their relationship almost as much as their adventures!

This is a thrilling read which I was engrossed in throughout. It was full of great characters, who were easy to relate to, exciting encounters from native Inuits to an angry bear and almost non-stop action.

I'm sure this would appeal to young teens as well as older age groups.

4.0 out of 5 stars It is OK, 16 Jan 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This product is just ok.
Yes it is non greasy, which is a plus for a foundation.
It is more expensive than other brands I have used, and I really cannot find the difference in the quality.
When using you only need a small amount for good results.
The main problem is the fragrance. HORRIBLE would describe this.
I am sorry, I expected more, both in quality and susbtance for the price.

A Gift to Remember
A Gift to Remember
by Melissa Hill
Edition: Hardcover
Price: 5.00

5.0 out of 5 stars "A Love Story to Warm your Heart", 12 Jan 2014
This review is from: A Gift to Remember (Hardcover)
I absolutely loved this book and was instantly captivated as soon as I started reading.

Darcy, 33, was orphaned at 12 and brought up in Brooklyn by her aunt Katherine who runs a successful corporate events business. She moved to Manhatten when just a teenager and now is the manager of Chaucer's an independent bookstore. She is at her happiest with her nose in a book and dreams of being swept off her feet by her fictional lovers and is constantly exasperated with her aunt's never-ending quest to match her up with any suitable eligible batchelors!
Teased by her work colleagues who tell that "No flesh and blood man could ever live up to those fictional heroes you're so crazy about" and Darcy couldn't disagree with them.

So when her and Aiden Harris's worlds collide, her imagination runs away with her as she finds pictures of him skydiving, scuba diving, skiing after searching his home for something to jog his memory..........

Darcy's investigations take her to the cream of New York society, meeting people and going to places she would never envisage, while finding new friends closer to home.

What I enjoyed most about this book were the chapters in which Aiden speaks in the lst person. We find out that in the weeks leading up to the accident he is desperately looking to buy a special gift, but we don't know what it is or what it's for. The author tells us just enough to keep us guessing about who Aiden really is...if he's so rich why does he have a subway card in his wallet?

An entertaining read, lovely characters, cute puppy with a mystery owner, highly recommended.

This is a brand, like the others, trying to cash in on the growing cereal bar market. I found this cereal bar ok. Neither good or bad.In my opinion, it is nowhere near as good as a Nutrograin bar which for me is the leader in this product.
I would not recommend this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Quality Drill, 11 Jan 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a good quality drill for the DIY'er.
From a great long standing brand of drills, Black and Decker.
The main feature of this drill,in my opinion, is the Lithium Ion Battery.
This is much superior to the Ni Cad Battery.
The Li Ion Battery holds the charge far longer, so, when you want to use the drill after a period of time, the charge is still there.
The drill is lightweight to use, and has good functionality.
A really good drill for general use around the house.
It is currently selling for a good price on Amazon, so my advice would be to buy it now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Calendar!, 30 Dec 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have been buying these calendars for several years now and this one is just as fantastic as all the others.
The colours are bright and colourful, there is a great mix of animals, my particular favourites are the penguins.
The date boxes at the bottom of each month's picture are just big enough to write in.
Overall, I would recommend this Calendar.

A Wartime Christmas
A Wartime Christmas
by Carol Rivers
Edition: Paperback
Price: 5.24

4.0 out of 5 stars A Moving Tale of Triumph in the Face of Adversity, 29 Dec 2013
This review is from: A Wartime Christmas (Paperback)
Kay Lewis is the book's likeable main character. She has a young son, Alfie, her husband Alan has recently left his job and joined the Heavy Rescue Squad and Kay works in the local armaments factory. They are a happy family unit who are struggling, like so many families, to survive during the War. Her elderly friend and neighbour Vi's house is bombed and Kay lets her live with them. Money is scarce but they manage.

This is a story of how people cope in such hardship, of how friendships and love are tested and how they survive in the most challenging of situations, living in constant fear of air raids and the deadly doodlebugs. How they try to grasp a little happiness in such desperately sad and lonely times.

I thought the blurb was a little misleading, it reads as if it's one Christmas but the book covers several Christmases while Alan is away at war, and Kay's mind is in turmoil over the strange woman and her small son who makes hurtful claims about her husband.

While overall the book was an enjoyable read, I would have liked to have known what Kay was really thinking and feeling about her husband being missing - did she think he was dead or alive - was she moving on or was she still holding out hope for him? I thought the author did not make it clear.

The writing was clear though and made for an easy read with resilient and sympathetic characters. What I did like was how the author kept us guessing as to what was happening with Alan, there was just one teaser chapter which gave us more questions than answers!

I enjoyed reading the story and would read another one by Carol Rivers.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This book lightened up my nieces day.
It is a magical book which kept her entertained from beginning to end.
Set in the Russian revolution, it was not too heavy for her ( she is 11 )and has a wonderful tale ideal for any young girl.
Be aware though there are some sad periods in the book.
Enchanting and an ideal present for any young girl.

3.0 out of 5 stars Really difficult, 19 Dec 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The idea behind this gift is good.
In reality the practicality of a young child doing this task is almost impossible.
A young child simply does not have the patience for this.
I found that the paint really did make a mess.
A good tip is to have a lot of room to work in, with plenty of newspaper around and preferably an apron of some sort on the child.
I was very disappointed with this gift.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, 19 Dec 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This book left me really disappointed.
This is a book of photos of unfinished street art and mainly slogans.
There are a number of better books about this subject out there.
This book is not for the get down and get dirty people. It is for the middle class people who want to be cool.Put this book on the table when your friends are coming and show them how progressive you are!!!!!!
