The Debt
The Debt
Price: 0.00

4.0 out of 5 stars Punchy short story, 5 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Debt (Kindle Edition)
OK, this is a really short story, covering the recovery of a debt (or the payment of a debt from the lead characters persective), in the murky underworld.

I think this was originally written as a car advertisement, but it's a good short read and certainly worth the time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Creasy goes on the rampage, 5 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Man on Fire (Kindle Edition)
If you've seen the film of the book, then you know what you're in for (although one is slightly different to the other).

Creasy, who is out of shape and drinking too much, takes on he job of protecting a young girl for a wealthy family. However, when things go wrong and he's injured, he knows what he has to do.

The story covers Creasy's recovery and the steps he takes from there. Set in Italy and Malta, the book is a brilliant read fron start to finish. Quinnell nails Creasy's character and wites and excellnt story. Brilliant, must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great Mitch Rapp novel, 5 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Kill Shot (Kindle Edition)
Rapp takes on a job in Paris, but he is wounded in his attempt and ends up on the run. He doesn't understand what's happened, he'd been careful and the CIA back up team had also made sweeps. It should have been a case of a quick in and out job.

That raises Rapp's suspicions (and he's not the most trusting to start with). He think he's been betrayed, and when he doesn't report in the CIA come for him. At this point Rapp has the CIA and a group of terrorists after him, so what doers he do?

He does what Micth Rapp does the best, he goes on the offensive.

A typical Rapp thriller, which is well written and plotted.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice looking watch, 5 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It's an automatic and it is cheap, but it tells the time and keeps good time.

I did, however, received the first watch which only ran for 36 hours and then died (ther can be a QC issue with Jaragar Watches, but if you get a good one you're away). However, the supplier sorted the issue and replaced the watch.

Second ones been running fine for a few weeks, keeping good time and it certainly looks a lot more expensive than it actually is.

Free Fire (Joe Pickett)
Free Fire (Joe Pickett)

5.0 out of 5 stars Usual Joe Picket Brilliance, 5 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
What can I say, Box writes in a relaxed style which fits the characters and the location. It's a clear style in all the books and works so well. The books are easy to read and always enjoyable.

In this one, rather than stumble into something, Picket is tasked with going to investigate by the local Guvenor (Rulon). Joe is slightly wary of his task, and knows he won't be welcomed, but decides to take Rulon up on the offer. He sets off to Yellowstone to investigate a partiular murder, where the man who has confessed to the crime cannot be prosecuted. So Joe has his man, and knows the victims, but why has all this happened???

We then enter typical Joe Pickett territory, where he asks the questions and looks in places where others have not, and we end up with the usual investigation and enjoyable ride which make up the Picket novels.

It's a great book, I love the style of writing and can't recommend the wntire series enough.

Emperor: The Blood of Gods (Special Edition) (Emperor Series, Book 5)
Emperor: The Blood of Gods (Special Edition) (Emperor Series, Book 5)
Price: 3.32

5.0 out of 5 stars A true ending to the Emperor series, 5 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I read the other novels some years ago in hard back and absolutely loved them. I was a little surprised at the release of the new novel and wondered where it could go. I also wondered whether it could live up to the previous books in the Emperor series.

However, I needn't have worried. Iggulden continues the series in fine style. In essence, after the death of Ceasar, we follow the political twists and turns of the senate, Mark Antony, and Ceasars adopted son. It's his son that takes centre stage, and it's his story we follow, but as usual in these books, there is plenty of background information in the form of conversation.

Needless to say, it's brilliantly written and well executed and rounds of the series of books well.

Highly recommended.

High Heat: (A Jack Reacher Novella) (Kindle Single) (Jack Reacher Short Stories)
High Heat: (A Jack Reacher Novella) (Kindle Single) (Jack Reacher Short Stories)
Price: 1.99

4.0 out of 5 stars A younger Reacher, 5 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
So, Reacher is in his late teens and in New York on a break before he visits his brother.

Problem is, he sees a young lady being slapped around by some Italian American and he stepps in to help.

For a novella, there's lots going on with the Son of Sam, the hot summer, the Mafia, and the FBI. Reacher steps into the fore and we have a nice little adventure.

Yes it's Reacher Lite, but it's well written and a good introduction into the forming years of Reacher. Well worth a read for a couple of hours.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mitch Rapp at his violent best, 5 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As many others have stated, Isreal take out an Iranian nuclear facility and Iran blame the USA for the attack and want revenge. But with political in fighting, they engage a terorrist to do their bidding... Big mistake.

Mitch Rapp is unleashed to resolve the matter and off he goes leaving a wake of dead in his path.

It's the usual fare from Flynn, and is well written and plotted. Good twist towards the end - which I won't spoil.

Great read as always and a good page turner.

Brainrush (Brainrush 1)
Brainrush (Brainrush 1)
Price: 0.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Farfecthed adventure ride., 5 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
OK, so it's a little far fetched and stretches the realms of possibility. There are a few bits that just mesh together a little too conveniently... But so what!

For a book to escape in and enjoy, it's does exactly what it's supposed to.

The lead character is terminally ill, but during a routine scan something happens and everything becomes far from routine. His "brain power" is increased 100 fold and he can absorb tons of information. However, that brings him to the attention of a research group who are investigating people with similar "skills". However, all is not as it seems.

Not wanting to get into the story too much, once the initial set up has been made as to what's going on, then it becomes a fast ride of action and adventure.

Certainly worth reading and well put together.

4.0 out of 5 stars Actually keeps good time, 5 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've given this 4 stars, as the watch does what it's meant to, it tells the time. It's a nice design and an automatic, with a glass screen on the reverse.

In fairness, the power reserve is minimal, and I did have a problem when first purchased, but since then, it's been perfect. It's a nice homage to the TAG Le Mans watch. It's cheap, cheerul and does what it says on the tin.
