5.0 out of 5 stars Witch-Movie Italic full blown - sTRASHissimo!, 17 Feb. 2010
This review is from: Baba Yaga [1973] [DVD] (DVD)
"Made with a certain taste and scenic photography, the film has other merits. Along the lines of sulfur and erotic comics of Guido Crepax, perhaps with parodic intent, efforts are made to believe in preternatural phenomena that are the delight of the bored, the result is a product of bad taste for the genre, abnormal situations, the unnecessary exhibition nude, annoyingly vacuous and pretentious dialogue ensures nothing but a hapless spectator uneducated waste of time trends of Baba Yaga lesbians are pretty watered down but quite explicit, however, while Baker, who in this film has only forty-two years but demonstrates a dozen more, not even a little tickling the spectator '.
Apart from some pseudo-lesbian scene wink along with the dolls Annette (lovers of Galleani absolutely can not miss out wearing bdsm invisible - and runs well kiss De Funes!), Throughout the film tries to seduce Valentina: the magic, coaxing, insinuating itself even in his dreams, his visions (in one of those kisses it is not clear where), but could not take it, even when the strips before (but this scene has made the complaint destruction and there are not more tracks - we're sure it's an injury?)!
At this point, Valentina, before declaring that she will never sleep with a lesbian like her old (!), Then, accordingly, is subject to its morbidity in a scene from the anthology in which trash is left meekly shackled hands and feet, is is tearing her clothes, then he gets whipped by Annette - there is all the imaginary male "porn-soft cartoony '70s. Mah ?!...

An enjoyable divertissment, a classic horror episodes connected by a frame in which Dr. Diabolo (not Diablo) with hypnosis does come out of all those involved in the darkness of the soul, their piu'recondite and various incoffessate aspirazioni.Dei the best episodes are the first (a kind of reinterpretation of "The Black Cat" Poe-contaminated mixture of witchcraft), a beautiful example of psychological horror and the last one with Jack Palance and Peter Cushing against each other in parts of two manic collectors Poe whose history finira'molto evil, weak, despite what the other two jerk face of the piano in a couple of occasions.
Certainly not memorable but well directed and well staged by a famous director of photography ... nice horror anthology, even if you forget 5 minutes after "the end".

5.0 out of 5 stars An impossible documentary...., 17 Feb. 2010
This review is from: Red Dawn [DVD] (DVD)
After decades feared the bomb and thermonuclear war, America - in this nightmare that moved more delirious with John Milius - wakes up in a climate of enemy occupation: the Soviets landed on the West Coast and invade the States, forming camps rehabilitation and imposing martial law. That remains is to go underground and resist the invader. As in an impossible documentary, the film recounts the struggle of resistance to the enemy but also the dream, even more impossible the invasion of two warring factions of chivalry who experience the long run, a stranger than by politics and nuclear deterrence. All filtered by a pseudo-militarized and gray, in a war of retaliation and inhuman efforts set in "a cold earth that looks like America."
It'was the first film to receive a U.S. visa of censorship "PG-13" specially created for the films that were not covered in the previous parameters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Goliardic adventure and funny 70s peplum..., 16 Feb. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Title Italian : WarGoddes in topless now nowhere to be found in Italy
Goliardic adventure between Amazons "in topless" (the Italian title certainly does not disappoint the expectations ..), apparently without sexual interests, and Greek soldiers in "crisis hormone. They do not make discounts for the jokes and double meanings, which give a touch more kitsch. Terence Young is the acclaimed director of the first 007, and it shows: humor Bondia eros (much less "restrained") and legendary fisticuffs (the gem of the film) between prosperous amazons nude. There is the pretense of feminism (these were the golden years of the dispute), though a bit 'too naive. Funny 70s peplum that rather than telling the legendary fight of Perseus against the Amazons, it takes around nicely. The battle of the sexes view the first director of James Bond (Terence Young), in an atmosphere typical of the films of the Trinity.
Some scenes, like the two rivals fighting Amazons among them, seem taken from his Bond movies, the rest is routine

4.0 out of 5 stars Little known chapter in the history of the Royal Navy, 16 Feb. 2010

This review is from: Gift Horse [DVD] [1952] (DVD)
A war movie made with craft that has the virtue of telling, while exalting too, a little known chapter in the history of the Royal Navy. Excellent proof of actors including a young Sir Richard Attenborough.
The Italian title (IL CACCIATORPEDINIERE MALEDETTO)as usual suggests anything, it certainly deals with war but also deals with an interesting perspective of everyday life on board, living in stereotypes, but without getting caught in the snare too. A script that plays with grace between tragedy and irony, with some sbafatura, but very well supported by excellent actors, who know very well contain the characters, never letting a big scene that situations impose.? The drama, the challenge rehabilitation are schema and Thrace, the rest is filled by a coherent story.
The "4-pipe Ballantras HMS is one of the 50 destroyers that America" rent "to England in '40. It is certainly a great ship, was to be dismantled, but the English "was worth as much gold as it weighed." The vessel must constantly resort to patches. If we add some recklessness in navigation justify the negative reputation that has been created. But in the end manages to ram a U-boat and complete a difficult mission in Saint Nazaire. The director with small capacity and with a maddening slowness, looking over the description of a war action to deepen the psychology of a disgraced captain and a crew-together, forced to live for several days in a cramped environment. Like all good clichés of war sailors as diverse environment can become a respectable team, buddies together and is jealous of the commander of the tub that they serve. This degree of over-gooders make the movie mediocre. Note that she was from the 4th Attenborough film actor (it is interesting to see the youthful features of the face) and that all states considered not even that bad.

5.0 out of 5 stars A well-deserved aura of cult., 15 Feb. 2010
It makes a certain effect to see an Italian science fiction film of 1965.
Actually does, primarily because the genre is not customary in Italian cinema and also because how, in films of the past imagined the future, shows naivete and take many prophetic insights.
In this case, the intuitions does not lack a certain blasé cynicism also suggested by the genius of the writing that was sharp Ennio Flaiano.
He also effect because in 1965 the technical means to allow a representation of the future consists only of sets, costumes and furnishings.
Dominate, in fact, the quotation of Pop Art more comics full of plastic telephones Ericofon "and a dash of Fellini.
Poverty of means, as they say, but the richness of ideas.
"The Tenth Victim" is a film from 1965 directed by Elio Petri.
The first time I caught DVD in the stalls but it is one of the annexes of the series "Our life in 100 films." If it's still around, I advise you not snubbed the price is slightly higher than that of a rental and series is decent.
What is surprising, aside Mastroianni in the company's first Bond girl dressed in the fashions of the time, is a trace of satire velenosetta the "futuristic" modernity, which of course reflects on tic, fashions, and the objects of the period.
There is talk of advertising, television, marriage and divorce, family and comics, control of violence.
It is instructive to see how, when and how things went.
The easiest thing is to see if, for example, the role of television in the film was imagined "science fiction".
"The Tenth Victim" is also a film veers decisively towards the classic Italian comedy, the cynical times capable of flogging, with malice, the spirit of Italy and its "dogmas". The scene of "Sunset", which I hope you will appreciate, it is better than a treatise on social anthropology.
The film did not have a particular critical success, but seems to have earned over time a well-deserved aura of cult.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very popular film about war-submarines, 15 Feb. 2010
This review is from: Destination Tokyo [1943] (DVD)
Perhaps one of the most 'popular films about submarines in forties. It did so many, then. The close-knit group of players is, some moments funny and collegiate camaraderie, but at times the film boring. Delmer Daves is still a good craftsman. From a story by Steve Fisher. The American submarine Copperfin must enter the Bay of Tokyo on the eve of Christmas 1942 to make measurements for the bombing of the city. Great film of war to all suspense. The part documentary and underwater shots are OK. All the interpretations are cool, moderate and very masculine.
Cpt.Cassidy is everything you may want from Cary Grant : straight, sober, brave and strategically unbeatable. He leads his men and at the same time is one of them. He does not lose control in the decisive moments, but he has no fear in telling he is scared to die. If you love men in uniforms, watch carefully the first appearance of Cary Grant in blue- navy suit: gorgeous! First shot of D.Daves directed by scriptwriter who wrote with Albert Maltz, Destination Tokyo is a great action film (about 135 min.)perhaps one of the best contributions to the so called war submarine.

5.0 out of 5 stars AN EPIC OF BIBLICAL PROPORTIONS..., 9 Feb. 2010

This review is from: Solomon And Sheba [DVD] (DVD)
Film expensive, and no Hollywood on the Tiber, but was shot in Hollywood with the outdoor scenes in Mexico. Tyrone Power was replaced, for he died during filming, and this was perhaps the greatest damage of the film, which was very successful, but seeing him, you see very well that Brinner is a last-minute replacement. The office of the actor couple disappeared, was necessary, moreover, now out of its clichés of Bellone and enough, but now also an actor complete and mature (eg with Wilder). The script is good and in the rules of its genre. the director is good, but obviously limited and private in his choice of the actor. The costumes are routine except that of Lollobrigida, truly amazing, but are of a great Italian tailor: Schubert, imposed by the friction and with reason. The scenarios are good and the fateful scene of dazzling shields is phenomenal. The coreagrafia is excellent and functional, so as to give a sensual charge unusual for the era and the genre.
Lollobrigida very good, but really! Her voice does not disappoint setting (also in English and French versions), has been preparing diligently, but without losing that amount of naturalness, which has made this character deal with security. He moves well in the important scenes, and films of this kind is not easy.
Brinner here with the wig that weakness leaves his verve, who had distinguished 10 Commandments and The King and I, sin was not his proper role, although the flicker of the eyes not missing.
Georges Sander bad and treacherous par excellence, here in a role, unisitato, including action, is good and we know it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A PLEASANT MEMORY, 2 Jan. 2010
The sad story of She, the immortal queen of H. Rider Haggard in eternal waiting for his lost lover, was brought to the screen at least ten times, from early 1899, the last one in 2001. This version of 1935 differs in many respects from the text of Haggard, starting from the location of the adventure, which takes place in Africa but more the Arctic Circle. She's wait has been reduced from 2,000 to 500 years, Leo's ancestor, which replaced the greek Kallikrates in the heart of the Queen. Even the name of She, Hash-A-Mo-Tep, does not reflect the original Ayesha. And the rebel who dares to defy Ustane is recognizable in Tanya. Differences aside, the film - thought lost for a long time (said to have been found in the private collection of Buster Keaton) - is very well done and impressive for the era in which it was made. The huge portal that introduces the realm of "She is, readjusted, which the natives of Skull Island were erected to protect themselves from King Kong (Ernest P. Schoedsack is one of the producers). Also strange cast: Helen Gahagan (She), singer and stage actress, is here to its unique interpretation of film, before descending into the political arena, Randolph Scott (Leo) says in one of the few non-western roles of his career, Holly and Nigel Bruce, who reached great popularity as Dr. Watson, a friend and aide of Sherlock Holmes / Basil Rathbone.

3.0 out of 5 stars A T-shirt you never forget, 2 Jan. 2010
This review is from: Fair Game [DVD] [1996] (DVD)
A novel by Paula Gosling. Former agents of the Soviet KGB, ensconced in Cuba, wish to eliminate a lawyer in Miami. An inspector of the section is responsible for murders keep her alive. Joel Silver production expensive in the glory of supermodel C. Crawford making his debut on the big schermo. The film was one of the aspirants to the title of worst film made in the USA in 1995. Contributes to the outcome veins of vulgar anti-communism and racism. The excellent exhibits Cindy breasts in T-shirt ever smaller. From the same novel was made into Cobra (1986) with Sylvester Stallone.
