Adelaide Upset (Empath Series Book 2)
Adelaide Upset (Empath Series Book 2)
Price: £3.01

2.0 out of 5 stars Confused and unattractive second instalment, 6 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is part two of Penny Greenhorn's Emotional Graves Series. I bought it because I enjoyed part 1: Adelaide Confused (Emotional Graves Series)
Adelaide Upset did not live up to the promise of the first book.I could not fathom Adelaide's motivation a lot of the time, making her an uninteresting heroine to me. There were too many stories at once none of them were worked out fully as if the author could not decide which story to use and just stuck everything together without considering how this would work.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not madly comfortable or flattering but ok, 6 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have used these for short rides up to half an hour and they are fine. They do not give as good cushioning and comfort as the Aldi cycling shorts I have. They are also really quite unflattering and, besides being bright pink, look like big granny pants.

Waking Jackal (The Jackal Chronicles Book 2)
Waking Jackal (The Jackal Chronicles Book 2)
Price: £0.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Good story, maybe best read as first in the series, 6 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is the prequel to Branding Jackal (The Jackal Chronicles Book 1) which is one of my favourites. Because I read it after Branding Jackal I already knew a lot of what would happen. Perhaps it works better if you read Waking Jackal first as it is a good story but it loses a lot of impact when you already know who everybody is and what the outcome will be.

Blood and Mistletoe (Ivy Granger, Psychic Detective)
Blood and Mistletoe (Ivy Granger, Psychic Detective)
Price: £0.99

2.0 out of 5 stars Was expecting better, 30 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I enjoyed Ivy Granger's first book but found this novella a bit disappointing. E.J. Stevens seems to have lost some of her ease in telling the story. She uses certain aspects of the story too repetitively eg Ivy thinking of taking Marvin on a sweet shopping trip then not being able to needs more than a page to describe Ivy's thoughts on it even though she seems to only have one thought on the matter. The climactic fight does not convince nor does the lead up to it.
Not sure I want to read the next instalment.

4.0 out of 5 stars New way of writing, 29 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Hal Higdon has based this books on what a number of runners put on to social media in response to running or volunteering at the Boston marathon 2013. I knew one of those people which is why I bought the book.
The book does give you a good picture of what this day was like for the people there. One of the difficulties with the book is that it is written for those already in the know about running, who would be interested in and understanding of the normal trials and tribulations of a marathon runner. Not sure it will work if you are a non runner simply interested in understanding the tragic happening of this day. It is also clearly (though understandably) aimed at the US market, explaining British runner tech speak for the Americans but not vice versa.
Despite all this I would recommend it as it does give you a flavour of what it was like for the athletes and organisers to have their event turn into a tragedy.

Salomon Women's Whisper Skirt - White, Large
Salomon Women's Whisper Skirt - White, Large
Offered by Dewan online store
Price: £13.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, 29 Aug. 2013
Looks good on doesn't flip up. Comfy fit doesn't chafe. Can sometimes feel a bit clingy. ( I know it's supposed to but after you get sweaty it can feel clingy in the wrong way). The tie at the front makes you look like you have a tummy if you wear your top over it but can look quite stylish if you wear it visibly. All in all not bad.

2.0 out of 5 stars It's all about sex baby, 28 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is not a crime thriller or urban fantasy novel it is an erotic romance novel. Unfortunately I bought it looking forward to murder mystery and fantasy so I was disappointed. The many long explicit and pointless sex scenes just overwhelmed any story.

The Adventures of Benjamin Skyhammer
The Adventures of Benjamin Skyhammer
Price: £4.62

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun read, 27 Mar. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The adventures of Benjamin Sky Hammer is a fairly traditional fantasy book. It has the hero setting out on a quest against great odds. Ben, as someone who can't use magic, is the underdog in society and unwillingly took on the post of keeper of the retrographs, which is the system that all humans use to store their memories. He has neglected this post in favour of hunting relics, left from a previous civilisation, as he hoped one day to gain magic this way. Now something has gone badly wrong with the retrograghs and Ben is blamed. He has to find who is to blame and solve the mystery before it sabotages an important ceremony that may give him the powers he has always yearned for. He is supported by his long time friend and fellow traveller, Higgins, a free spirited female mage. His boyhood love, who disappeared 3 years ago, becomes entangled in the tale.
The tale is strong in description, giving you a vivid picture of the different species populating this world and the environment they live in. Also the action is fast and interesting.
Negatives for me were what felt like inconsistencies in emotions in Ben's character which gave him a lack of depth. Also the occasional bit in the story did not quite convince such as the actions by the long lost love, or Ben's habit of going to sleep at critical points.

On the whole good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Appealing but odd, 25 Mar. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have to agree with the previous reviewer that it needs to be edited. There are too many typos to forgive and I don't know what the author was trying to achieve with the last couple of chapters, which seem to be the start of a new short story rather than the ending of the novel.
However the novel is fun and interesting and develops rapidly, dragging you along with surprising charm. As well as Santa and aliens you have two spy networks trying to outdo each other and some likeable if odd characters. From the taster it comes across as if this might be a Big Brotherish, faceless bureaucracy novel and though the author does do some mick taking about bureaucracies this is not what the novel is about.

I didn't think it could be done, but Lucy Morgan has written an actual, interesting, funny and involving, erotic short story. Highly recommended.
