4.0 out of 5 stars Good for hyper kids ;-), 13 Nov. 2007
It's not the best recording I ever heard. Not too well recorded, with cheap drum samples etc and kids with strong Glasgow accents (funny that) but the songs are the right ones for kids with too much energy. Like a sort of a aerobics for kids. Stand-up, sit Down, gets them laughing and me out of breath. I used it with my kids for indoor play-time at the pre-school I work at and it did the job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and tragic..., 14 Jun. 2007
Wow, it is so sad. I couldn't stop crying. It is undoubtedly a shock at first, being not at all used to seeing sex displayed so obviously on the screen. But, well I mean we are all mostly no strangers to the sexual act. So after you get over the initial embarrassment, the film is very deeply touching.

The actors are extremely convincing, even taking into account the poker-faced, non-expression that the japanese seem to practise. You see them spiralling down, further and further into the danger of addiction, of it never being enough, always needing more, a heftier kick. A gigantic itch that gets worse the more you scratch. It is so terribly sad because you know they will destroy each other with their love and desire and there's nothing you, or they can do to stop it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, touching and funny..., 3 Dec. 2006
If you are looking for a compilation of Hisaishi's works, here is the ultimate one. Themes and songs from all the Kitano films are there. None of the Miyazaki Anime film-themes tho, I think they'll be on "Works", or a Ghibli Compilation.

If you don't know any of Hisaishi's Music, it's beautiful, haunting and tender film music, often fully orchestrated and often strangely melancholic. Slightly reminds me of Ryuichi Sakamotos stuff, only not as eccentric.

I'm not so good with words and descriptions, so it's good that Hisaishi's Work bypasses all that and goes straight into the heart ;-)

My Best Book of Rhymes
My Best Book of Rhymes

Edition: Hardcover

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely Illustrations, 23 Oct. 2006

Well, we all know the rhymes don't we. The illustrations are lovely and old worldy, and large and colourful. The rhymes are often reduced to just 1 verse, which is a shame. otherwise, lovely book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for small children, 17 Jun. 2006
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It's really very sweet having an extremely positive and loving atmosphere. The teletubbies are not grown-ups and probably not even human so they have to learn everything from the beginning. They can't even speak like grown ups which seems to be no problem for children, egging them on to experiment with their own syllables and sounds. (Children are always drawn to charachters that resemble children.)

It's slow moving and gentle, which may be boring and incomprehensible to adults but is benficial for small kids who are often overwhelmed by the imformation overload, with lots of repetition so inexperienced minds have a chance take it all in.

5.0 out of 5 stars It really is Good!, 17 Jun. 2006
This review is from: My First Album (Audio CD)
There's so much rubbish that you can buy these days, it's so nice to buy something you can tell someone's really thought about.

The songs are nicely sung and sound very friendly and pleasant. (not squeaky and compressed like some cds) And the action songs on the dvd are just great with friendly, beaming nursery nurses doing the actions quite clearly. (albeit in a broad northern english accent... Hi hi)The children are also a wide mixture of colours and sizes. Cute :-)And the animations for the other songs and rhymes are quite simple and slow moving, which is important for small children as they need a while to take things in. Most dvd's are just too much imformation and stress for small children. My 16 month old daughter LOVES this dvd and can even already do most of the actions.

The only irritating thing is that there is no feature to "play all". You can only play the sections which are over quite quickly. But apart from that the whole thing is TOPS. Well done:-)
