Brabantia original spare lid for touch bin 50 litres matt steel fingerprint proof
Brabantia original spare lid for touch bin 50 litres matt steel fingerprint proof
Offered by Binionaire
Price: £49.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Not cheap, but worth it for another decade's use of my Brabantia bin, 5 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The spring on my Brabantia died after about ten years of daily use, and while £32.50 seems like a lot for just a lid, it's better than spending a hundred quid or so on a whole new bin. Fits, works and looks like the original. Free postage and fast delivery always nice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works very well, 2 Jun 2014

This inexpensive device makes making spätzle very easy. I'd previously tried a colander and a Moulilegumes - the colander was a disaster and the Mouli worked, but was pretty messy. This is sturdy, easy to clean and works really well. It's not apparent from the photograph, but the funnel has a kind of internal lip which forces the batter through the holes evenly as you slide it. Very clever.

A Killing Kindness: A Charles Dickens/Harry Pilgrim mystery (The Charles Dickens/Harry Pilgrim Mysteries Book 1)
A Killing Kindness: A Charles Dickens/Harry Pilgrim mystery (The Charles Dickens/Harry Pilgrim Mysteries Book 1)

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun thriller set in a sordid Victorian London, 14 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
From the opening sequence (a desperate chase through a rat-infested sewer) to a surprise ending with promise of more to follow, A Killing Kindness grips the reader and holds on tight for a fun and bumpy ride. Detective Harry Pilgrim is a credible 19th century protagonist with whom a modern audience can empathise - he reminds me of Andrew Martin's steam railway detective Jim Stringer, or even Lindsey Davis' ancient Roman sleuth Marcus Falco. A sordid and hypocritical 19th Century London is nicely evoked, and some fascinating historical detail - such as the emergence of the detective function within the police force and the suspicion and resistance it provoked - is woven nicely into the plot so it doesn't feel like a history lesson. The odd anachronistic line or phrase jars a little, but only here and there, and I'm sure that if the series continues, Durham will perfect the language. Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dissappointing, 27 Mar 2014

I really wanted to like this novel - I love cats, I like Lynne Truss very much as a non-fiction writer and wit, and I'm really into black comedy - but it failed to engage on anything other than a superficial level. A few chuckles, and there's enough interest to keep you going to the end of what is after all a very short book, but that was it.

4.0 out of 5 stars An uneven match, 8 Dec 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I remember being impressed by The Stone Tapes when I was a kid, but it hasn't aged well. It now looks cheap, clunky and unconvincing - interesting only really as a period piece. On the other hand, Ghost Watch is excellent; genuinely chilling and terrifically imaginative. Long before Blair Witch, REC and Paranormal Activity, the makers of Ghost Watch subverted the reality TV genre to brilliant effect. Interestingly, the non-actors playing themselves - Parkinson and Greene - are much more convincing than the people playing roles. Worth buying the double feature for Ghost Watch alone, I'd say.

4.0 out of 5 stars A useful, inexpensive dictionary, 8 Dec 2013

Better and cheaper than the e-book options on Kindle, and easier to use when you're reading a German novel on your device.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny, charming, evocative., 8 Dec 2013

This review is from: Russendisko (Paperback)
I'm really enjoying this book, which is more a collection of interlinked short stories - very short, in fact, just 3 or 4 pages each - than a novel. The German is a bit of a challenge - I did A level more than thirty years ago and very rarely speak the language - but the book is so much fun that it doesn't feel like hard study when you're reading it. A good choice for learners and people who, like me, would like to revive their old German.

3.0 out of 5 stars A shame, 13 Sep 2013

I really wanted to like this, and got into it at first, but I found it confused and ultimately boring. Too long, really, and oddly lacking in humour - I say oddly because I've always found Marks so amusing and witty. Shame he doesn't bring more of that into his fiction.

4.0 out of 5 stars Handy, but it doesn't give a full picture, 13 Sep 2013

The popout format is fantastically handy and practical. The only problem for a city as big as Berlin is that it necessarily has to cut off before you get to the outer suburbs. For instance the apartment I rented is just outside the Mitte side of the map, even though it's not really that far from the centre.
