1.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely awful, 4 Oct 2013

Short sentences. I just couldn't make it. Past the first chapter. Infuriating style of prose. I recommend downloading a preview. Before you buy the full book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expect from Merkur, 30 Mar 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have a Merkur Futur double edge safety razor which I absolutely love. Merkur's reputation coupled with the rave reviews this trimmer seems to be getting on Amazon and elsewhere resulted in an instant purchase. I also like the idea of having a nose hair trimmer that doesn't require batteries. Unfortunately, this bit of German engineering is nothing but a huge disappointment.

First of all, this nose hair trimmer has difficulty trimming your nose hair down below maybe 2.5-5mm, so your nose hair is still clearly visible, it's just neater. In defence of the product, my nose wasn't as itchy as it was after using an electric nose hair trimmer, but by design, it just can't trim nose hair down to an "invisible" length, which is surely the point of a nose hair trimmer.

Second, the lubricant in the blade mechanism is basically a honey trap for your nose hair trimmings. Not such a bad thing in itself, until you realise that you need a flat head screw driver to take the thing apart for cleaning - then you'll want to re-apply some lubricant. If you're into messing about with your kit, this won't bother you, but as someone who bought this because it didn't need new batteries every few months, only to discover it needs tediously cleaning with a tool kit handy after pretty much every use, you can perhaps see that it defeats the point.

Finally, I dropped it the other day on my tiled floor (from waist height). This has caused one of the blade "nubbins" to bend into the mechanism and it has jammed. I realise this is my own stupid fault for dropping it, but in my defence, it's a very small tool and who doesn't drop things in the bathroom? Wet hands, metal, etc. Also, so much for Merkur's famous build quality if one small knock can completely mangle the mechanism.

I'm now on the look out for a new electrical trimmer - I'd rather have an itchy nose for a few hours and no visible nose hair than "neat" nose hair.

Buyers beware - battery free does not necessarily mean "hassle free". Very disappointed with Merkur.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant cloths..., 30 Mar 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought two of these as advised in another Amazon review, and they're brilliant. I slightly dampen the first cloth and give my monitor/LCD TV the once over, then I finish it off with the dry cloth. The result is a perfect screen with no finger prints, dust or smeg. Absolutely excellent, and no cleaning products required. It's also handy that the cloths come in a little plastic pouch, which keeps them dust-free.

Buy two!

4.0 out of 5 stars It's decent, but let down by the stupid packaging, 30 Mar 2011
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
UPDATE: One year on and it has flattened out nicely. Took months though - not ideal. Have upped my score to 4 stars (was 3).

It's a fairly decent mousemat. It's nice and large, but not stupendously so, and it does a good job with my optical mouse - there's no cursor "jumping" or anything. However, it's STUPIDLY rolled up like a newspaper in its packaging, and even after weeks of use, a full two days under a massive pile of books and magazines and an "incident" with a steam iron, it just won't flatten out properly. Very annoying. Probably going to buy a different mousemat to replace it. It's a shame - if it were packaged flat with some card to keep it steady in transit, it would be absolutely perfect. Reasonably priced, too. As it is, it's just no good to me all bumpy and folded.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely big stick, 12 April 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Excellent arcade stick, on a par with the good old Dreamcast's official Arcade Stick, possibly better.

Also works on a Windows PC via USB, just plug and play. Ideal for MAME and other emulation as well as the various freeware PC shmups out there. I echo what has been said about the performance on the 360, brilliant for fighting games as well as the Live Arcade.

Worth every penny.
