The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia
The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia
by Shigeru Miyamoto
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £12.67

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book and a must for any Zelda Fan, 17 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a great book and a fine celebration of 25 years of the Legend of Zelda series, the book gives a mix of a detailed chronology of the Zelda series with the history and interation of each game explained. There are also interviews with key figures from the development of the games (including a nice foreword by Shigeru Miyamoto).
But it's the artwork which makes this a great purchase, there is concept work for nearly every game in the series detailing the various incarnations of Link, Zelda and Gannon. This is a lovingly put together collection and includes a prequel manga for Skyward Sword.
If you love zelda buy this book, you won't be disapointed

1.0 out of 5 stars pretentious mascerading as intelegent Sci-fi, 31 Dec 2012
I was quite excited by this film and I bought into much of the hype, when I finally saw it Prometheus was one of the few films I was generally angry to have spent money on. I've heard a lot about this being an intelegent peice of film work and thought provoking, I'm afraid this was not the case. The film raised questions and then spent no time addressing the issues these raise, a cheap shot to wrangle a sequal. The story was somewhat familar, mostly because it took all of the major themes in alien and rehashed them to poor effect here.
Vissualy the film is good, but I've seen much better and it by no way makes up for the deeply flawed plot. The acting is for the most part fair, but the writing and plot rarely gives the actors a chance to shine. In my opinion there's not a lot of moments the cast will hold out as their best ever work.
I'm a fan of Ridley Scott and this was high on my list of most anticipated films, what I got was a rehash of the first film with some metaphysical nonsense with the hope that it could encourage a sequal ( by the was there already is one it's called Alien and it's what they were trying to remake here.).
I'm a fan of intelegent sci-fi and would recommend films like the brilliant Moon, or Ridley Scott's earlier work like Blade Runner or the original Alien. Prometheus is a hollow mimic of intelegent Sci-fi and was a great disappointment for me. I'd look elsewhere if your looking for smart sci-fi, this is definitely a film to miss.

The Hunger Games (Hunger Games Trilogy)
The Hunger Games (Hunger Games Trilogy)

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting look at a post-apocalyptic adventure, not to be missed, 26 Mar 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I'd never heard about this book until my brother told me it was being made into a film. So I got it on my Kindle and thought I'd give it a look, 3 days later I had not only finished this book but its two sequels as well.
A lot of the reviews gush about how great the book is, which to be fair it is a very good story but its got its faults. Not nearly enough to put you off reading it though.

Its the future of the United States, divided after wars over earths dwindling resources has let 12 districts under the all powerful control of the Captial. Katniss Everdeen has volunteered to fight in the Hunger Games (think of the Running man) to save her sister. Each district choses two teenagers to fight to the death and only one can survie (bit like thunderdome). Peeta Mellark her fellow tribute in the games is secretly in love with Katniss and will do anything to protect her. The two compete to survive in the games with the usual twists and turns as expected in an adventure like this.

At its heart this is a good story and while not an original idea it is well presented and the main character is well developed and we follow the story from her view point. My only concern is sometimes the characters seem very one dimentional and sometimes it's hard to relate to them. This does not detract from the rest of the time where they are very well written and complex people. There are points where the story feels rushed and too little time is spent fleshing out scenarios.

The story was very enjoyable and I devoured the books, its true it was a challenge to put them down till the end. And even then I rushed to keep reading with the following books. At its heart I think that this is a Post-Appocalyptic love story, there are many themes but the prevalent ones always fall back to the choices Katniss has to make in the ruined world to deal with her feelings.

Top class read with a few minor faults, pick it up and you won't be disapointed

5.0 out of 5 stars First class game, shame about the ending..., 26 Mar 2012
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
First off lets be honest, if you liked Mass Effect 1 & 2 you'll be buying this without reading any reviews. I know I did.
But never fear what you've got with this game is the best combat system of the series so far. Engaging story and an epic scope of galatic conflict.
The game is a true masterpiece with high quality visuals and characterisation. Your choices in the previous games really do impact how the story plays out and each new mission offers rich and rewarding choices with real concequences.
Even the day one DLC "From Ashes" offers a fully developed team mate and not a bad set of missions.
Now the bad news, the Ending.
Buy now you know its not all you've hoped it would be, and boy is it worse. There are 3 core endings which you chose when offered a simple A,B or C choice. The way you'ev played the game, the choices made upto that point don't have any impact on your ending. And the ending themselves are esencially the same, which considering how choice and concequences was one of the major selling points of the game if a massive fault.
Don't let this put you off, everything but the last 15mins is great and you won't be disappointed. Bioware say they are looking at new DLC to change the ending, here's hoping.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some Old School RPGing with elements for everyone, 13 Feb 2012
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
The market is fairly flooded right now with RPGs of all shapes and sizes but Kingdoms of Amalur stands proudly amoungst them all. It doesn't have the stunning graphics of Skyrim or the moral quandries of Mass Effect or Dragon Age but it makes up for that by being an awful lot of fun.

The world has a backlog of lore and gorgeous graphics with interesting characters brought to life with first class voice talent. The freedom of character class and skills isn't quite like anyting I've played recently and is casual enough for first time RPG players while retaining enough complexity to keep hardcore players atentive.

This game really reminds me of some old school RPG with a little bit of the Tales games and JRPG thrown in. It's a great game and very rewarding, its not one of the blockbuster games of the year but it is one of the best.

1.0 out of 5 stars Danger, Extreme Caution should be used with this product, 21 Jan 2008
This is a Class 3B laser, it should not be used by anyone who has not received training with use of lasers. According to the UK Health Protection Agency this class of laser is totally un-suitable as a laser pointer, and green wavelength lasers are extrememly hazardous for use by un-trained people.
To safely use a laser of this class you would require Laser safety googles and even a small exposure could cause lasting damage to your eyes. Sure its brighter than a red laser but it is far more hazardous, if you are buying this be very sure to avoid pointing it at people and reflective surfaces.

5.0 out of 5 stars A masterpeice in gaming, a must have for all true gamers, 13 Feb 2006
Shadow of the Colossus is the second game brought to you by those nice chaps who made Ico. And this game is yet another true visual beauty, the game is graphically stunning to the wandering Colossi to the lonely landscapes which they enhabit. You play a young hero seeking to restore the soul to a young girl, and to do so you must slay these colossi.
This game is essentially one massive boss fight after another but this is far from being a negative point. You will have to work out how you will climb up to the weakpoints of each beast and each boss will present new challenges to overcome.
This is a true masterpeice of gaming and is a must have for everyone. Ico fans will not be disapointed with this new game and if you've not played ico this is the perfect time to go get a copy and find out what you've been missing.

5.0 out of 5 stars At last the Clone Wars Draw to a close, 22 Nov 2005
The 2nd volume of the Clone Wars sees a change to the format of the first. Now each episode is around 15mins long and have a little more diologue, never fear though all the fast paced action is still there.
The story again follows our favourite Jedi Knights as they fight the battles which made up the clone wars, climaxing in with Obi-Wan and Anakin recieving news of Palpatine's kidnap. Again the Animation is first rate and the story is enjoyable filling in the gap between Episodes II and III.
If possible even better than the first, a must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game, All GTA in a handheld!, 14 Nov 2005
I've been playing the game for a couple of weeks now and I've got to say it is a gameing masterpiece.
Don't get me wrong, gameplay wise there is nothing new here, the combat system is from GTA:SA and the bikes are from GTA:VC and while there are a few changes to the city Liberty city hasn't changed all that much since GTA III.
There's a whole new story, this is a full GTA game, with main missions and side quests and the usual mix of races and Rampages and odd jobs you'd expect.
Graphically this is not a match for the PS2 but as said for a handheld it's outstanding, the game is full voice acted and stays true to the GTA feel.
The missons are shorter than usual, this is to supplement the Handheld format but they are not lacking in substance.
An excelent addition to any game collection and a defining game for the PSP!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Western in Space, it shouldn't work., 14 Sep 2005
Okay a western in space made by the guy who created Buffy and the mildly better Angel. On paper this should be a mess and I've got to admit I was put off at first, Although the unique world which has been created and the mature and deep character arcs which have been written puts this show up there with the few other well done space dramas.
Like Babylon 5 Firefly uses the future as a setting, the characters are what are important here not the futuristic setting. Of the 13 episodes made I can honestly say I enjoyed each and everyone, the characters are well written and are superbly cast. An other victim of Fox's desire to make cheap reality TV which was unfairly axed, however with the film Serenity close to release you don't have to wait to long to see how everything raps up.
A must have for anyone who enjoys good program making. Right up there with the best.
