5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect BluRay of the world's greatest film..., 30 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Apparently still by the numbers the world's most popular film, and easy to argue it's the single best film ever made. A complete exploration of human psychology - but coincidentally with literally the handful of most famous songs in the English language, as well as being a flawless thriller, oh and incidentally it's the primary angular-Jungian exposition of the central historical event of the 20th century, WW2; it also happens to be the greatest performance by the greatest ever actress, and as "very minor" incidental matters, easily the finest photography in any film, easily the finest set design in any film, the best European travelogue ever, don't forget it's the best family film ever made, and on top of that a number of "lesser" matters like the greatest puppetry performance on film, the finest choreography on film ... the list goes on! This particular BluRay fortunately a technical masterpiece, no problems. (The on-screen bonus features, if you ever bother with them, are a bit fussy - but that's just a sign of our times.) Enjoy!

Not much you can say, it's Steamboat Bill Jr. .. it's almost as funny as _The General_, hence, pretty much the second funniest film ever made! Enjoy. BluRay is perfect, a great rendition.

This review is from: Eat Fat And Grow Slim (Hardcover)
Classic, and amazing, text. All you need to shake off the current (totally nutty) dietary nonsense that is going around, and become completely healthy. If you are a devotee of Dr Wolfgang Lutz (Life Without Bread), you'll enjoy this volume - absolutely fascinating.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Only Sharpener., 30 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
There are now a number of web sites and blogs devoted to people who are "real pencil" and "real sharpener" fans - believe or not. This is one of the most highly regarded items. It's now just a part of my life. How could you use anything else? For new users, note that the ida is you use the left channel, then the right channel for the tip. Somewhat confusingly it is not in any way, at all, marked in this way on the device - you "just have to know". Also confusingly, as a sort of bonus there are "micro sharpeners" on the sides which are strictly for use with mechanical pencil ledds. Confusingly, if you're a newcomer to KUM, you may think these relate in some way to the normal-pencil sharpening process - no, hey are irrelevant. So, put your pencil in the left channel first to shape the wood, and then in the right channel secondly to shape the tip. I personally hate the plastic cover, I just take it off and throw it in the bin, and then use the sharpener open (perhaps over the bin to stay tidy), but that's just a preference amongst KUM users. "Welcome to the club"

Strangely enough -- Rod Stewart (of all people) mentions this hilarious classic in his autobiography; his Mom took him to see it as a child. Classic film of course - a social and comic masterpiece - the BluRay is perfect, perfect product.

5.0 out of 5 stars No problem with USA Import, 30 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Fans would already have the Japanese language or French language BluRay of this amazing film. The English language version as yet (2013) is still a USA import. I was able to buy it no problem from Vidmorph who shipped it instantly, a great seller. Obviously ensure your player(s) can play a USA bluray, or dvd. Thanks again Vidmorph for perfect service, awesome! Obviously a must for all Ghibli fans.

Children of the Sky, The (Zones of Thought)
Children of the Sky, The (Zones of Thought)
by Vernor Vinge
Edition: Mass Market Paperback
Price: £7.99

1.0 out of 5 stars I love, adore, Vinge -- but this one is dull!, 1 Feb. 2013
I am probably literally the biggest Vernor Vinge fan !

I idolize, apotheosize, Vinge.

He's the ultimate. Everyone should read every Vinge book immediately.

Vinge's five best books are the five best books - of any type - ever - ever written!

But it has to be said that this book is essentially very slow. It's all medieval - it's just set on a (boring!) planet where they are waiting for 20 years for something to happen. The whole book is basically a very slow history of the comings and goings of these rural characters. It has to be said, totally boring.

Basically, not your typical Vinge book!

If you're lucky enough to be new to Vinge, just pass this and read - quite simply - any other one of his books.

Every single other book he has written, is an epoch-making masterpiece. Thank you, Mr. Vinge! (Err, but not for this one! :) )

5.0 out of 5 stars This guy is either the next Galileo, or, merely a spectacularly clear writer., 12 Dec. 2012
First it's critical to realise that Andrew Thomas here is absolutely modest, and not in the slightest a nutcase.

You can be confident that _Hidden in plain sight_ has nothing at all of a crazy nature: Mr Thomas talks through his ideas with total modesty and discretion. Everything is presented as much as a surprise to himself as anyone else. There is no secret-revealed "they're all wrong!" conspiracy theory here, don't worry.

This is a totally mainstream book - theory - discussion if you will - that sits completely within the mainstream conventional fields of physics as they exist today.

Again - astoundingly - nothing in the book disagrees, at all, with the mainstream of quantum physics and relativity physics. It's "just" that it's all now explained.

The book does - indeed - just as advertised - offer what can only be called at the minimum a "staggeringly insightful" new - let us say reclarification of, or recasting of, the already obvious observations about, well, the universe that are laying in front of our eyes.

Where the heck did this Andrew Thomas spring from? Beats me, but I'm awfully glad he put down the explanation at hand in a book.

Really amazing.
