A year after purchase I have absolutely no complaints about this item.
Does what it says on the tin at a reasonable price.

For those weaned on Fullton absolutely essential.

Still looking for the original, "Sheep's Heid Pie" though.
It must be out there somewhere.

A great little book for those intent on eating what they forage for.

I recall some forty years ago my mother, who was attending university at the time, praising this book.
Now after all these years I find my self reading it and readable it is too.
The author gives context to many of the things that as a Scotsman I "knew" but of which I had little real grasp.
In some areas where one has some knowledge, there is the fleeting impression he has only gone as far back as the most recent instance of the matter being considered but in a book which must inevitably be of finite length that too is inevitable.
On the whole a highly readable and worthwhile work, the study of which should dispel some of the myths and airs we Scots like to carry with us but perhaps, spur us on to justify them.

Reading this book one can't help but wonder if the slow demise of the pre-reformation church orders might one day be used as an analogy for our present day Banks.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, but, and not dead brilliant., 3 Nov. 2014

Mildly amusing and entertaining at first, the author's addiction to the Oxford comma irritates and wears one down.
The positioning of punctuation in relation to parenthesis likewise confuses.
Perhaps these foibles in a non prescriptive language are explained later and might be found acceptable, if I ever get round to picking the book up to finish it.

Growling in the Kennel of Justice: Lawyers' Reflections on the Legacy of Robert Burns
Growling in the Kennel of Justice: Lawyers' Reflections on the Legacy of Robert Burns
by Allan Nicolson

5.0 out of 5 stars The Imperfect Bard, 3 Nov. 2014

A worthwhile read for anyone interested in the life and times of Burns.
Ogilvy's insult of the Duchess of Gordon (p.269) is worth the cover price alone.
Burn's himself does not come out of the book too well, though he is not he overtly criticised.
In thirty years of rural practice as a WS I have come across many empty cockerels of both farming and legal stock in whom Burns' deficiencies as a man could be seen reflected. None however, could match his wit.
Personally I find some of his work gives no greater pleasure than that of the much maligned William Topaz McGonagall.
On the other hand such pieces as Tom O'Shanter, more autobiographical than his biographers care to admit and the immortal, A Man's a Man for a That, are unlikely to be surpassed.
That Burns used his work to so overtly libel those he perceived as his opponents in life, is unfortunate and one feels little sympathy for him when he suffers under the pen of Dr James Muirhead (p.237).

The glossary will be a useful necessity for many readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good, 25 Aug. 2014

Bought this as camping food and found it to be excellent. The production process inevitably results in quite a lot of gravy so keep this in mind if doing rice or dehydrated tatties to go with it.
Alternatively it can make a great base for a knocked together curry for an evening when you can't be bothered cooking.
Must confess to not being nearly so impressed with other products in the range but happy with this item.

.A few interesting ideas but you will need to check them elsewhere.
Apart from that, the radiation from your laptop will fry your gonads, your phone will fry your brain,
the infections caught doing press ups on your carpet will do you no good, blue cheese is very scary stuff.......... tin foil hat?
Lots of links to inane websites and plenty of plugs for other books to read if you want the real low down.
Rubbishes nutrient timing but concludes by stating that it works.
Gives a detailed insight into the grotesque world of teenage American dietary habits, where any change would seem to be an improvement.
Slates high protein intake for athletes and then goes on to do a calculation which brings out a result that would look at home in any modern body building manual.
The mid sections of the book can be safely skimmed if you want to finish quickly.
If you must, then pay for the Kindle version.
