5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute belter, 14 May 2013
This review is from: Promises (Audio CD)
I'm sure there will be far more eloquent reviews about this album than mine, but all you need to know is this record is an absolute belter. The last two albums were great, but dare I say it this is better than both and maybe sees the band at their peak.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pure pleasure, 18 Feb. 2012

Don't listen to the detractors, this is a wonderful film. In a cinema world dominated by car chases, violence, special effects, CGI blah blah blah it's was so refreshing to see something that brings back entertainment from a bygone age. I'm of course not reviewing the DVD, in fact don't wait for the DVD to come out find a cinema where it is showing and go! I've just seen the film at my local volunteer run indie cinema and it was pure pleasure. I had to wait an extra half hour for the film to start so they could cram everyone in and the audience actually applauded at the end of the film, when was last time you did that at a movie?

4.0 out of 5 stars A Magical Movie, 31 Dec. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)

Don't be put of by some of the less than gushing reviews here, this film is wonderful. Yes the story is on the sad side, but to suggest that it should have some contrived happy ending would somehow devalue the message that in entertainment, fashions rapidly change and there are always those that are left behind. Equally to try to read something sinister into the relationship of the two leading characters seems to be more a reflection of the way we view the world today than an accurate criticism of this film. Surely even now it's still possible for two lost/lonely souls to find solice together for a while without there being ulterior motives. Anyway who said animation always had to be 'Disney', there are still plenty of moments of humour here from the fiesty rabbit to the fantantastic acrobats and the almost reveal of what the scotsman has under his kilt.

Needless to say, yes I will be getting the DVD and I did actually go to see the film a second time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bliss, 26 April 2010

I had a pretty miserable year last year, but the one bright spot was two wonderful evenings spent with Dreadzone (Colchester and Cambridge). How great to go gigs where everyone just enjoys themselves and you feel good to be part of the human race. I haven't managed to get to any of this years shows, but this album will do more than enough to keep the memories fresh. Nothing particularly new just the Dreads doing what they do best, great melodies, lyrics, sweet vocals and a large slice of fun. Feels like summer is already here.

Strange, the Editors went 80's electro and I thought it was awful. Groove Armada do the same and it's wonderful. Full of melody, invention, power and aggression. Certainly the best album I've heard this year. I can understand the reviewers that lament the change of direction, it's often a real shame/loss when a band you have loved for years start turning out material you can't stand. However for me Groove Armada have just given themselves a rather brilliant new lease of life.
