1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible, 8 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
My goodness ... how can anyone publish this stuff? Wait a mo! It's self published. That's why it's full of grammatical errors, typographical no-noes and incorrect info. Why on earth does Mr Barter, who considers himself a cyclist, think that L'etape du Tour is a 'race'? There is a huge difference between a bike race and a sportive. Know the difference Dave and then correct the book.

Neil's work is, for me anyhow, the best examples of great music.... I'm rambling, but this is a nice piece of nostalgia.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great piece of investigative journalism, 8 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Team Sky are falsely accused on Internet forums of cheating. If these accusations were made in newspapers the people making them would be in court suffering from libel actions. Instead it's the riders and team managers/staff that suffer with these continual false allegations. Walsh has done his best in reporting what he has seen - as he has found nothing to suggest even the hint of a doping programme. Beautifully written Mr Walsh and 100% believable. Thanks for a great book. What a shame the haters are now tearing you to bits.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great content but shame about the editing, 25 Oct 2013

This review is from: Wheelmen (Hardcover)
Come on ..... Here are two senior journalists working for a distinguished daily who cannot ensure that their work is edited and proof read before publication. There are some glitches here - mainly involving bring people into the narrative without telling us who those people are. For example it refers to "Abt". I know who he is because I am a collector of cycling books but why should the authors/editor assume that their readers know who this guy is? And punctuation. Oh my God! Who teaches anyone anything about punctuation these days? I though professional publishers (especially of work of this importance) would pay a bit of attention to good proofing and editing. On the other hand ......... I loved this dismantling of the Armstrong myth. I've been banging on about Armstrong and his sociopathic tendencies for 10 years. It's all here and it's a good read!

1.0 out of 5 stars What a waste of paper, 25 Oct 2013

This review is from: Bicycle! (Paperback)
This author may be a bit of a cult or whatever, but if I have a book on cycle mechanics I really don't expect it to be full of expletives. What on earth was the publisher and their editors thinking about when they allowed this language to appear in this work? I'm no prude, but the point is that using expletives in a book of this nature is totally out of kilter with the content. I don't mind if it adds something to the work in hand, but here all it does is distract and make one think that the writer is a bit short of vocabulary and/or imagination. Sadly, I've stuck it in the corner of my cycling library and am awaiting for an explanation from the author!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, 25 Oct 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Hey Rod: You have written an engrossing and enthralling book here. Your descriptions of all the emotions involved ring true, indeed it's as if you were sitting in my study telling me the story without having written anything down. That's how a good book should feel and you have that great writer, WF, to thank for the skills he bought to the table. But Faber, your publisher, could employ more experienced proof readers. The book is let down by frequent errors of punctuation and the odd typo. However, it doesn't distract from the absorbing content. Thanks for writing this!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Mark Cavendish, 10 Oct 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Why do Collins, a professional publisher it is said, continue to tell us that the author of their books is the guy who wrote the foreword? Isn't that deceit? Why does Ellis Bacon allow it? Yes, this is by Ellis Bacon. This was not written by Mark Cavendish, And if you look at Ellis' other tome - '300 Great Races', we were told that this was written by Phil Liggett. It wasn't. He wrote the foreword. Same trick again. Very annoying and dishonest and takes away the pleasure of the book. Oh yes! The book! Lots of nice maps to tell us where the Tour has been over the past 100 years. Beautifully done in fact. If you are both a Tour lover and a francophile (as I am) then you'll love this. But please Collins. No more deceit!
