5.0 out of 5 stars Get Your Money Out, 31 Jan 2005

Buy it. This album is just excellent, justifying all the hype and expectation in my opinion. If you've got Brand New or Run Come Save Me you'll know the style of the man, this is just as funky but with some darker beats and breaks and a bit more experimentation. Top track is "Chin High" which to me is Sabres Of Paradise beats with Mr Smith's mad lyrics - just can't wait for the live version.
Peerless in the UK.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice indeed, 4 Jan 2005
I rarely rate albums 5/5 but this one's special. If you love Smog (as I do) this collection of songs has a similar feel and you won't be disappointed. No gimmicks or discordant melodies, just good song-writing.

A lovely album brimming with delicious despair. My wife finds herself humming along to a track and the next one is about lost hope and she starts whingeing about it being 'unhappy music'. Not as strong as I See a Darkness, but I love all of Mr Oldham's music.

3.0 out of 5 stars More of the same but still pretty good., 4 Jan 2005

Although I still prefer Rejoicing in the Hands as a complete album, this studio stuff is pretty good and worth your hard earned. Definitely not a cobbled together afterthought and has a happy feel about it.

4.0 out of 5 stars An odd collection of songs, 1 Jun 2004

Recommended to me by Rough Trade staff so thought I'd give it a try. Peculiar mix of lo-fi 30's type vocals interspersed with peculiar sound effects (a re-sampled chicken crowing seemed to be a favourite) make this an intriguing album. Worth a buy if you like and buy a lot of odd albums.
