Some good recipes in here with decent pictures and using fairly available ingredients. I wouldn't say it is an essential book but will still be used from time to time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Value Steam Iron, 31 Dec 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
There are a few things which you need to look at when purchasing an iron. Functionality being the primary one, but space and cost come into it.

The Tefal steam generator iron works really well. When ironing dry clothes it will take out creases very easily, and when steaming it will produce steam on three different power settings.

I've only given it four stars for a few reasons. The water reserviour at the front of the unit isn't removable, which means you have to take the entire unit to the sink if you want to empty it. The unit is pretty big for an iron, and although it's very easy to move around because of the iron lock and the light weight, it's still big!!

The only other major drawback is steaming capacity. My wife and I steamed her wedding dress with it, and whilst going through that much material, the reserviour of steam ran out, so we had to keep waiting for 20-30 seconds for it to charge up, and then going again. The amount of steam it produces is impressive, and pretty good for most domestic tasks, but it's definitely not a commercial or professional machine.

Amazing value and quality for the home! Recommended, if only for the amazingly quick ironing.

The book contains a great overall view of contemporary jewellery today. The contents are well laid out and guide the reader through the contents very well. The high quality photography and detail put into presenting each item really adds to the quality of the book, and it's value to a reader.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great with a bottle of wine, 20 Dec 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
I've just started getting into wine. Starting with a nice Argentinian red, but other than that I didn't really know much.

This book covers a LOT of information for those wishing to get into wine and find out more.

Split into two main sections, 1) Buying, Tasting and Drinking, and 2) The World's most common wines.

The first section can be read quite happily in an evening. The essentials of wine, where it comes from, what it's about, differences between red, white and champagne.

The second section though requires some coursework to enjoy. I'm slowly working through various different wine types, split into Old World and New World and discovering and learning about these wines as I go!

there's other useful stuff in the back with tips on buying in the UK and a few wineries who allow people to visit.

Overall, a very comprehensive book which provides a great oversight and some in-depth fundamentals in some areas. It's not a massive wine encyclopedia which, for me at least, is perfect! Definitely recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for a short trip, 20 Aug 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
This is a good guide to Istanbul for a short visit of 2-5 days. Any longer and I would recommend Istanbul (Lonely Planet City Guides) instead.

The places found in this book are of course useful and it covers a good selection of places to visit in terms of tourist attractions, food and drink etc. etc. but generally there is a smaller selection than other books.

the map included is useful but not as detailed as other maps in similar books.

There isn't any real history or intro to Istanbul as a city.

But the book is small, the the places it did recommend were good. If I were to visit again I would go back to the Lonely Planet City Guide.

You may or may not have heard of Seth Godin.
He is a marketeer and entrepreneur, amongst other things. His regular blog and other various books are read and shared frequently by a lot of people.

This book is about doing something, anything. It's about poking the box. It's about starting something, and just doing it. You don't need anyone's permission to do it.

This book is about that, but not about how to get started. I think that it is intended to motivate people into starting, getting on with things without asking anyone what to do or how to do it. Get out there, start it and make something.

It's short and sweet. It's cheap and small.
Buy it and be motivated. I was.

After becoming overloaded at work, and needing to take a break from it all, I looked into reading more about managing stress management and about preventing it more than anything.

This book popped up after a quick search and it sounded manageable for my then fragile brain.

It's perfect for a short (or long) commute. I managed to read about 2 to 3 chapters in two train stops which is an easily digestible amount for the day - a few ideas to keep in mind and possibly try out. The book is really set up nicely. 100 chapters, taking you through all of these little and large influencers of stress.

From saying no and breathing deeply, to improving relationships; all of these chapters cover various small things which all add up to help reduce stress. Each chapter covers the theory, and then there is an example. The examples actually make this book, they show that real people use these methods to improve their lives.

Highly recommended reading if you're feeling overloaded and stressed. And it only takes a few minutes per day to make the most of it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting but obvious, 28 Jun 2012

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
This book covers a subject which runs through my mind every now and again. Are we getting completely absorbed by the technological revolution? Yes, and no is the answer, depending on who you are.

This book covers a lot of tips and techniques to combat the revolution, the technical revolution. Some parts are good, some are elaborated one liners, but my general feeling is that the book contains lots of snippets of information about ways to improve your life without depending on technology.

It's worth a read, but don't expect too much.

I have been using Illustrator for years and would consider myself proficient in the basics. I can use a few of the tools really well.

This training suite really helps to show more tools within Illustrator and how to use them. A great reference guide for the other 90% which before this i haven't used too much.
