Q: When will my order be delivered?
A: Once your order has been confirmed we will send you an e-mail with delivery dates, courier details and tracking information. We aim to delivery most items within 3 working days - please see the Shipping section for more information.

Q: What happens if I want to cancel my order? 
A: Once your order has been confirmed we cannot stop the despatch process and your item will more than likely have been shipped. If you change your mind after you have received an order confirmation email please just reject the delivery and notify us via email or telephone of your intention to cancel. The goods will then be returned to us and we can action a refund. For more information please refer to our Returns and Refunds section.

Q: Do you ship outside the UK?
A: Regrettably, we are unable to ship outside the UK, or to Guernsey, Jersey or BFPO addresses.

Q: My unit's display looks second hand.  It has scratches all over it.
A: Many items have a scratch-cover over the display to protect it in transit, this can be peeled off. If you are still unhappy with the condition of your purchase please contact us before leaving feedback as we endeavour to rectify any such issues quickly and with the minimum inconvenience to you.

Q: I have requested a refund - how long will it take to appear in my account?
A: Refunds can take up to 5 working days to appear on a bank statement. If the goods have been despatched a refund will not be made until they are received back with us.

Q: My item has developed a fault - what do I do?
A: Please contact us as soon as you believe your item may not be functioning correctly. If the fault occurs within 28 days we will usually collect and exchange the item for you. If the fault occurs after 28 days but before the expiration of the guarantee period we will usually arrange to collect the product for inspection and repair by our qualified engineers. If the guarantee has expired we can usually provide a chargeable repair service - please contact us for more information on this.

    About Hughes Direct

    Welcome to Hughes Direct. 
    Hughes Electrical was founded in Suffolk, England  in 1921 by Frank Hughes who trained as an electrical engineer after having served in the cavalry during the Great War. Originally the company rewound industrial electrical motors for Lowestoft's once large fishing fleet but in 1928 Frank bought his first shop. Here he built and sold radios and the family literally lived over it for many years. The business was incorporated in 1946 but the following year Frank passed away, leaving his children Peter, Phyllis and Jim to take over the management of the company.
    Ever the entrepreneurial company, Hughes were quick to introduce new technologies as they developed, such as televisions and labour saving kitchen appliances. By renting these products they became affordable for the typical household in the post-war austerity years. This early equipment was notoriously unreliable and the engineering background of the company meant it was well placed to develop a large service infrastructure to repair them. Geographic expansion soon followed and by the end of the century Hughes had over 30 shops and 5 service centres located throughout East Anglia. By then, management was into its 3rd generation under Robert and Jeremy Hughes meaning the company was, and remains to this day, a true family business.
    Expansion has continued into the next millennium and Hughes is now the country's 4th largest specialist electrical retailer and the 2nd largest provider of home entertainment and kitchen appliance rentals. Hughes Direct won the Domestic and General Internet Retailer of the year award. We were voted the best electrical website by 250,000 customers of Domestic and General. Our commercial division, Trade Electricals Direct (TED), is one of the country’s fastest growing and most respected business to business electrical suppliers. This division was awarded the contract to be the preferred supplier of kitchen appliances to the London 2012 Olympics, reflecting its gathering success. Hughes has expanded its retail footprint with the acquisition of Apollo 2000 in 2009 and Bennetts Retail in 2011, procuring several large out of town stores and greatly increasing the company’s expertise in the sale of kitchen appliances and IT equipment. The company has developed a 70,000 sq ft distribution facility in Thetford which supports all the shops, websites, trade centres and service centres, whilst retaining its commitment to service, with over 100 fully trained electrical engineers.
    In 2011 Hughes Electrical celebrated its 90th birthday by winning both the EDP Business of the Year which is East Anglia’s most prestigious business award and the ERT Independent Electrical Retailer of the year which is the Industry’s most prestigious award. This success shows that the company’s motto of “inspiring customer loyalty through customer service” remains as relevant and true today as when Frank Hughes first founded the business more than 90 years ago.

    Hughes Direct Dispatch Policies

    How long will my delivery take?
    We aim to deliver items shown as "In Stock" within 2-5 working days. Unfortunately we are unable to deliver goods in the Channel Islands. You will be contacted within 2 working days of placing your order if we are unable to dispatch the goods within the normal time-scales. We suggest you keep the original packing in case you have any reason to return your purchase.

    How much is the delivery charge?
    Delivery charges are displayed on the product page before you add the product to the basket. Most products have free delivery however some items are subject to a delivery charge.

    Where will you deliver?
    Deliveries are only available to UK Mainland addresses.

    Who delivers my order?
    Your order will be delivered on our behalf by DPD, City Link, or Arrow. In most cases our couriers will then send a text message on the morning of delivery with a time slot. Please be advised that although these dates' times are usually accurate they are not however guaranteed and we do not accept claims for any losses occurring consequential or otherwise.
    Please Note: All deliveries must be signed for. You may be charged for the subsequent re-booking of failed deliveries of large appliances if, for example, you are not home when the delivery arrives.

    It is your responsibility to check your goods upon delivery for shortages or damage and to make a note of such on the carriers consignment note when you sign for the goods. You will also need to notify us within 24 hours of delivery. This can be done by calling our sales department on 08712 313113 or by emailing through your Amazon account

    All prices include VAT. No contract is created until we have accepted your order. In the event a product is listed at an incorrect price due to a typographical error or error in pricing information received from our suppliers we will not process your order and will instead alert you immediately to the actual price of the goods. You will then have the option to proceed at this updated price. We will only process any such order with your explicit authority. Prices quoted are subject to stock availability.

    Returns and Refunds

    Your Right to Cancel
    Your right to cancel an order for goods starts the moment you place your order and ends 14 days from the day you receive your goods.
    This 14 day period is the time you have to decide whether to cancel, you then have a further 14 days to actually send the goods back.
    Your Right to a Refund
    You should receive a refund within 14 days of the goods being received back.
    A deduction can be made if the value of the goods has been reduced as a result of the customer handling the goods more than was necessary. The extent to which a customer can handle the goods is the same as it would be if you were assessing them in a shop.
    Refunding the cost of delivery You are entitled to the basic delivery cost of getting the goods to you in the first place, so if you opted for enhanced service eg expedited/express delivery, weekend delivery, installation or removal of a scrap appliance you will only receive the basic delivery cost.

    Should you wish to cancel your order, any goods supplied must be returned to Hughes, Inspections Dept, 3 Fison Way, Thetford, Norfolk, IP24 1HT, at your own expense within 14 days of your notice to cancel. 
    We are unable to accept back unwanted gifts or non-faulty items if more than 14 days after the delivery date have passed. If your item is faulty please see the 'Service' section of our website. We are able to arrange insured collection if requested. An indication of the costs are listed below;
