About Richer Sounds
Richer Sounds is an unlisted PLC 100% owned by Julian Richer, the founder and managing director of the company.
We are a retailer and e-tailer of hi-fi, home cinema and flat screen TV equipment with the emphasis on value for money and we try to give good customer service.
Julian began at the age of 14 by buying and selling hi-fi separates while still at school. By the age of 17 he had three people working for him and in 1978, aged 19, the company formally began trading when Julian opened his first shop at London Bridge, with the help of the late Vic Odden, the photography retailer. For the past 20+ years this store has been featured in the Guinness Book of Records for the highest sales per square foot of any retail outlet in the world – which of course, is thanks to you!
We now trade from over 50 stores in 41 towns/cities nationwide, with 10 in London alone, and are the biggest hi-fi retailer in the country. As a privately owned company, we have no plans to expand quickly. Our intention is to go for controlled growth in an orderly and profitable manner.
Historically, we have been known for selling budget audio equipment in a ‘pile it high and sell it cheap’ fashion, but in recent years we’ve responded to a shift in the electronics retail market and expanded our range from the purely audio to encompass plasma and LCD TVs. In a similar vein, 2007/8 saw us launch ranges of audiophile hi-fi, multi-room and high-end home cinema separates, with some stores adding home-styled demonstration rooms where you can experience the quality of sound and vision in comfort.
Richer Sounds’ core philosophy can be summed up by the motto “Biggest Brands, Best Prices, Expert Advice & Take It Home Today”, which is emblazoned on every shop front and featured in all ads and in-store literature.
Sales staff are chosen on the criteria of enthusiasm and friendliness, rather than good looks or skill in hard sales techniques. We like to think that our colleagues are some of the most experienced in the industry, so please pay us a visit – have a coffee, a demonstration and allow us to offer as much advice as you need.
We believe in providing a non-intimidating atmosphere, one in which we work with you to ensure that you get the desired results from your choices. We insist on changing items you are not happy with, or offering you a refund if you wish. This applies up to 7 days after purchase.
Julian Richer encourages everyone (customers and employees) to shape the shopping experience by asking for their feedback, both positive and negative. Each store provides freepost cards that get sent directly to him. Shoppers get to rate their visit via a questionnaire attached to every receipt, and Julian responds personally to any negative feedback.
We also have a suggestion scheme in which colleagues are strongly encouraged to participate to help shape our company. It is widely acknowledged as one of the most successful in terms of the number of suggestions received per employee and has gone on to become the model for many other businesses, including the Halifax bank and Asda supermarkets. It has also been cited by academics as an example of a good idea system, most notably Dr Alan G Robinson of the Isenberg School of Management, University of Massachusetts Amherst, in his paper ‘How the Best Managers and Organisations Tap the Ideas of their Front Line People.’ Julian and Richer Sounds have also been mentioned in many business books.
The company has also received recognition from Business in the Community for its contributions to charity. Richer Sounds currently funnels 15% of its profits into charitable organisations, making it one of the most generous donators (in percentage terms) of any company in the UK.
In 2002, Richer Sounds was judged as the best British-owned company to work for by the Sunday Times. It has also been recognised by the government-backed Investors in People scheme.
Our 5 year supercare guarantee has been commended by publications such as The Independent and The Guardian.
We are delighted to announce that Which? have awarded us their prestigious ‘Best Retailer’ award for 2010.

Most orders are shipped via our friends at DPD, except small accessories which are sent via Royal Mail.
Delivery occurs within 5 working days. If after this time you have still to take receipt of your order email email@example.com providing your order number, name, address, and brief details of what you ordered. We strive to answer all queries within a working day, although at busy times we do ask that you bear with us. Please submit your query only once, as repeated emails/telephone calls only serves to slow down our response time and can result in further delays to your order.
All deliveries must be signed for. They will NOT be left in garages, sheds, outside loos, porches etc. You must examine the goods before signing for them to ensure they are in good condition - if packaging is damaged please do not accept goods. Instead notify us as soon as possible. If there is no-one in to sign for the goods, they will be taken back to the courier depot and a card left.
If we are out of stock of an item or there is a problem, we will contact you as soon as possible.

Returns and Refunds
To return your purchase to Richer Sound
We will happily accept the return of your online purchase under the following circumstances.
1. Goods, other than faulty goods, may be returned within 7 working days of the date of receipt by you of the goods. The cost of the return delivery charge under these circumstances is to be paid directly by the customer. As you can appreciate, we would request that all goods be returned in an ‘as new’ condition complete with packaging and all accessories. Unfortunately, goods which do not comply with this condition may be subject to a handling charge. Where goods are returned in accordance with this provision, we will happily reimburse any money already paid by you, excluding any delivery costs incurred by us. We will usually refund you what you paid for the goods but not the delivery charges except in cases where the order was cancelled under the UK Distance Selling act or the item was faulty.
2. Should the unit arrive faulty or damaged in transit; we will happily exchange this for a replacement unit or issue you with a full refund or credit as soon as possible.
3. Should the unit develop a fault:
If the unit is covered by our "Supercare" extended warranty:

We will happily collect the unit free of charge for a free speedy repair.
If it is covered by the manufacturer's twelve month guarantee:
We will obviously collect the unit, there will however be a small charge to cover our costs for collecting and delivering your unit.
All items are guaranteed for a full 12 months for domestic use. Obviously we can't be expected to guarantee against misuse (i.e. blown speakers etc.), excessive wear and tear (i.e. commercial use), Please note that if repairs are done other than by ourselves or authorised agents our guarantee can't apply. This guarantee is naturally in addition to your statutory rights. After the guarantee has expired we will still endeavour to help with any servicing your equipment may require.
