Carlos Dafe, Claudio Zoli, Simoninha, Ed Motta, Max de Castro, Paula Lima, Banda Black Rio, Tim Maia, Cassiano - all fantastic exponents of what you might call Brazilian Soul. If you like Jorge Ben's funky swing, you'll like any of these people.
Modern Choro, people like Hamilton De Holanda and Marco Pereira and Nicolas Krassik, instrumental and very jazz inflected. Thrilling stuff. I am also keen to find out more about a style called Maracatu -percussion based. Does anyone know anything about this?
i dont know much about maracatu, there is a compilation by sounds of the universe which covers most of Papete's work who, along with Airto, is one of the most famous brazilian percussionists, amazon have it here: Percussao E Berimbau [VINYL]
