How do you choose which game to play ?

We are not very far into this new gen and already my back log of games is building up (but still I continue to buy games- but that's another topic). As it grows and I am faced with more and more single players that remained half finished, barely started etc. Lots of things stop me playing any certain game, a sudden love of a MP, a new game coming out that is slightly more appealing then the one im playing.

However I think that I have always enjoyed a game more if I stick with it and play nothing but that until its done, and then move on to the next. This helps me get immersed in the story more and not forget what's happening or where I was etc.

So for me I think bar the odd MP night I am going stick with Thief and South Park and Infamous will have to wait for my attention and even then I should finish AC4 and KZ SF before those.

ooh the pressures of gamer with little gaming time.

What about you guys do you follow a strict 1 game at a time policy , or do you play bits and pieces of range of games?

im genuinely interested to know.

I done two 7 hour sessions on the ac4 mp fri and sat just to get it donr before starting thief as I've learned my lesson from last gen. One game at a time and only buy what I really want to play.

I only ever have two games on the go at once.
One I play and the other a game for me and the mrs to share.

I cannot concentrate on any more than that in my advancing years and if being honest any more than two games and i get confused with the controls !

At the moment im playing need for speed undercover - my game
r& c nexus - mrs and me.

My game was usually cod but over the last few years but since MW2 its been story driven SP games .. but Im being a lot more adventurous these days and have just finished ni No Kuni , a game I wouldnt have even looked at a couple of years ago.

I do like to shoot things in a game though !

I prefer to have one game on the go at anyone time but I'll have two on the go if they are of a different genre. Typically I'll have something quite story driven as my main game and a racing game as a secondary that doesn't require too much thought.

I have to finish said main game before starting another as well. Otherwise it gets a bit complicated keeping up with controls and story threads.

I generally play one or two single player games at a time. I'm playing Gravity Rush and Unit 13 at the moment, along with BF4 MP. I usually choose games from game play videos - or if I have a liking for a particular franchise such as Halo, Killzone or Battlefield. I have to say of late, except for 2-3 Vita games, not many games have appealed to me and find I'm in the biggest gaming rut ever. Nothing for several months really appeals at all, and games I've been waiting for have turned out to be disappointments, so all I'm doing is playing PS Vita games I've got free with PS+ over the last couple of years.

Usually 2 games at a time, except when a Souls game is released, in which case everything falls by the wayside..... including my sleep and personal life. :-(

1 at a time & I try to finish every game I buy with few exceptions (Lost Planet as I hated it being one that springs to mind). Just had a frantic weekend trying to finish Resistance 2 (i've gone off FPS in a big way) as I had Uncharted waiting in the wings & I really wanted to play it.

There has been a few games which I've played non-stop till I've completed them, for both PS & PC. Not so much so recently if I'm honest.

The last game I've played to the end is TLOU. What a fantastic game this was. The game before that which was played to be completed was Rage & Bulletstorm (PC) & Diablo 3 (PS3, All 4 acts on all difficulties)

I played about 7 hours of Tomb Raider and then had my little girl and my gaming stop, then just couldn't get back into it, until I completed the part **SPOLIER** When the Scottish Fella dies, on that tower part **SPOILER** and then got re-hooked and completed it. (Plus, its only 1 of a few games I've gone through it and collected all the trophies/achievements. Non MP)

I've just recently completed Starcraft 2 Heart of the Swarm, and now I'm at a dry spell, as none of the below games grapple my attention.

PC:
Dishonoured
The Witcher 2
Metro 2033
Dark Souls
Max Payne 3
Borderlands 2 (Tiny Tina's & Hammerlocks DLC)
**Loads of games I have no intention of playing:
Aliens: CM, Bastion, Brutal Legend, Burnout Paradice, Crysis 2, Darkspore, Dead Space 1, 2, 3, Deus Ex, Hitman, Absolution, Just Cause 2, LIMBO, Mark OF the Ninja, Mirror's Edge, Red Faction (All 3), Rocketbirds, Trine 2, Torchlight 2

PS3
Farcry 3
Killzone 2
GTA 5
Dragon's Dogma
Metro Last Light
Bioshock Infinite
Uncharted 3
Assassin's Creed 3
DMC (Devil May Cry)
Grid 2
**Few games I have no intention of playing/completing - Guacamelee, Payday etc..

PS4
Killzone Shadow Fall
Assassin's Creed 4
**Game I have no intention of playing/completing - Outlast

This is just a list that I can think of off the top of my head from Steam Sales/PS+.. Crazy stuff...

I'll usually stick to one game per system until I finish it. Sometimes I'll get bored, or something new will come out and I'll put that game on hold for a bit. Like friday when Stick of Truth comes out, I'll stop playing Demon Souls.

I rarely bother to plat stuff since once I finish the plot of the game I a lot of the motivation for playing goes.

I play lots of different games in a fairly random fashion. It can take me years to complete a game and some never get completed. I sometimes think that I'll just focus on one game as that certainly makes financial sense, but i get easily distracted by either wanting that new game rush or through wanting to revisit older classics.

Currently I'm spending time on toukiden, ragnorak odyssey, tales of symphonia, 3D dot game heroes, thief, ys: memories of celceta and resogun. I'm enjoying my gaming so i guess that's all that matters.

Play Bastion please you'll do yourself as massive favour as the game is just astounding, the music, the atmosphere and to top it off it's also fun

Wonderful game and it can be beaten in like 3 hours so it's not a massive time investment

Burty that's my way of thinking and by god do I enjoy gaming.

However the games I have really loved over last couple of years are the ones I have just played through and concentrated on 100%. The Last of Us, Hitman Absolution, Tell Tales The Walking Dead to name a few.

I suppose the question is, did I get fully absorbed in to these games and loved them so because I concentrated on just playing them and nothing else. Or did I just concentrate on these games and play nothing else , because I was enjoying them so much ??

I tend to fall into the latter camp Gaz, I find a game that clicks with me and I just play it to death. Multiple playthroughs, going back to certain parts to replay cool sections (I did this a lot with TLOU, I re-did the firefight where Ellie helps out with the sniper rifle loads of times just to try out different strategies). Another recent example is lumping 60 hours into Dishonored which is a relatively shortish game but I've just replayed certain levels loads of times trying out new stuff.

i currently have Fable Ann, Thief, South Park SOT, and MG:GZ to get through this year and i have no mojo to play any of them, i started thief but was a bit annoyed that its a dishonoured clone, havnt touched fable yet except to do one quest.

normally i would just stick with one game at a time, but already this month theres a new game backlog built up and its stresing me out!

" i started thief but was a bit annoyed that its a dishonoured clone"

Whoah got to stop you there bud, Dishonoured is a Thief Clone! ...

This is Thief 4, and the old PC Thief games definitely inspired Dishonoured.

Yep, tru dat.

The reason I have cut the amount of games I buy down this gen is that when making room for my ps4 and selling off old last gen stuff the amount of games that I bought and played for less than an hour was shocking even worse was the amount of games that never made it out of the wrapper. Adding up what I'd paid for them was pretty distressing, Could've went away for the weekend or bought a Xbone with it. Pissing it up against a wall would've been more satisfactory so this gen, one game at a time and only buy what I really want to play.

Astro, yeah I must admit when I got rid of my 360 I had a lot of unfinished games too.

I think after this little splurge South Park, MGS, Infamous im going to spend the summer completing everything and then but more sensibly

Are you guys that ditched the ps3 missing the free games from plus ?
And i mean the full release games not the indie give aways.

Ps plus also has a big influence on what games Im palying at the moment.

Not really Mat, I still download them from my app but truth be told I haven't had my ps3 on since I bought my PS4.

Things are just better. Party chat went down a couple of nights ago and it was a panic which is crazy considering how long I lived without it, loading times are much shorter, hitting the PS button in the middle of a game doesn't mean you are sitting and waiting on the XMB for 40 seconds. It's just a much more user friendly experience. If I played something other than BF (which has 64 instead of 24 players) most of the time I might have went back but at the moment I don't have a reason to.

My worry with taking the plunge is the number of games available.
Im not quite ready for next gen yet and in truth Im very hesitant about giving up my ps3.
I have the funds to get one if I wanted I just cannot commit fully yet -- silly really.

A game will come along sooner or later that you see and you just HAVE to play. That's the time to jump if you are content at the moment I'd say.
