Hi Folks,

I'm getting a Vita next week and my main plan is to use it for RPG's.

I bought a Vita at launch but was so dissapointed with COD when it cme out that I sold the console! Ive seen the error of my ways but plan to stay away from FPS / Racers and keep those for the XBONE.

Can any of you reccomend the best RPG's to play on it?

I love the old Final Fantasy's (7- X-2) but cannot stand the more recent efforts. Also loved Lost Oddysey and Blue Dragon, Other than that havent played many. I dont particularly like action oriented ones and would much rather it be turn based if possible?

Sounds like a job for Burty this one...

On the subject of FPS on Vita, dont let COD put you off, Killzone: Mercs is a cracking FPS and shows how it can and should be done.

Persona 4 is your game of choice.
Turn based RPG with a great story

Also there a raft of PSP RPGs that you can get on PSN as well as all the old FF games.

Welcome to the gang!

Currently out in English

Persona 4 Golden
Atelier Totori(Digital Only)
Atelier Meruru(Digital Only)
Disgaea 3
Disgaea 4(Due for release later this year I believe).
Soul Sacrifice.
Conception 2 (Out in a few months in America)
Ys: Memories of Celceta
Murumasa Rebirth
Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD collection (Out in a few months)
Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc(Visual Novel esq game).

Go for any of these. Oh and most Vita RPGs are action based.

When I said action oriented what I really meant was I prefer turn based over free play hack n slash type stuff like kingdom hearts. Action in itself a big Yay!

Disgaea, Persona and Final fantasy are your turn based games.

Soul Sacrifice, Dragons Crown, Muramasa are more hackyslashy.

I never finished FF9 so that will be the first port of call I think, and a HD Version of FFX will be a must have of course, but will definately give some of these others a try!

Plus one to Matthew's list my mate knows as much about existing/upcoming RPGs as Burty does. However personally I have to say Persona 4 Golden - that is all!

Will also say poke your head in the Vita thread as thats where people like Burty, Lady M and all us other nerds arrange co-op RPG sessions like Dragons Crown, Soul Sacrifice etc :D

hey,

vita rpgs are certainly on the increase. there aren't so many turn-based rpgs at the mo but the one's i can think of are:

disgaea 3 (the best rpg on the vita)
persona 4 golden (darn fine game)
sourcery saga: curse of the curry god (roguelike rpg - not to everyone's taste - pun intended :) - also US only at the mo)
atelier totori & atelier meruru ( alchemy focused rpgs)
rainbow moon (excellent psn rpg) - rainbow skies is due this year.
final fantasy X/ X-2 HD remakes are due in march

the action-based rpgs are:

dungeon hunter alliance (pretty decent traditional rpg)
soul sacrifice (great arena style rpg)
ragnorak odyssey (really good in co-op)
dragon's crown - (golden axe style rpg - great fun)
murumasa rebirth - (gorgeous side-scrolling melee rpg)
valhalla knights 3 - (decent party-based rpg)
ys: memories of celceta - (out in uk on feb - should be fun)
toukiden - (also due out in feb - monster hunter style rpg)

that's all that spring to mind and most were covered in Matthew's list. No news for disgaea 4 in english yet, but bound to come. Conception 2 looks interesting but may be a bit of a wait for the uk. There is probably a couple more of the atelier series inbound, but they just tend to appear on the store with no warning.

So as you can see Burty also really knows his stuff...except for insanely thinking Disgaea is better than Persona :p

Wow Burty, and I thought I had my hands full making my way through FFVII to FFX-HD! So much gaming to do!

I think we'll probably get Atelier Rorona in English at some point this year. Unsure about Atelier Ayesha as that comes out in March in Japan and we typically have a wait between games. I'm looking forward to Rorona plus as it'll have new characters, events, costumes and cross play support.

"except for insanely thinking Disgaea is better than Persona :p "

but it is so much better than persona in every respect, except possibly graphics, dood!

however, i am biased towards disgaea games :)

"Also burty, you forgot to say dood! Dood. "

On a separate note, can anyone tell me whether PS+ is worth paying for for the Vita alone, being an XBONER I wont get any use out of the PS3 / 4 content?

R - Dual says:
These are the Vita games 'currently' available on PS+ for Vita:

Guacamelee
Uncharted Golden Abyss
Gravity Rush
GTA: Liberty City Stories
Soul Sacrifice
Blazblue Continuum Shift Extend

I'd say it's worth it for Gravity Rush and Uncharted alone.

Having Guacamelee and Soul Sacrifice at the moment is amazing, then you have another 12 months of games.

nice.

PS+ is worth it just for vita if you dont already own any of the content.

You also have access to PS1 RPGs, Wild Arms is the only one i've played not mentioned above. Don't think anyone's mentioned FF tactics either?

Posted on 21 Jan 2014 16:58:23 GMT
also, one of my personal favourite games... Parasite Eve 2. :)

Agreed imo plus is worth it just for the vita I subbed for 3 months and as above I think uncharted alone is worth more than the sub

djburty says:
One other bonus to ps+ is access to saving your saved games to the cloud. This is very useful because if you want to delete a downloaded game you automatically delete any saved games from the vita.

The free games are also only available whilst you are subscribed to ps+ and you can't access them once the subscription expires. However, any discounts on games (usually about 10%) are permanent.
