Some good reviews, the poor ones seem to revolve around the relatively short play time given the price. Anyone picking this up ?.

Yeah I am, for 23 on PS4 its worth a punt, just to see how old Kiefer does as Snake !

I cant help but think i'm paying 23 for demo of MGS5, but Ill just have to hope its that good ill play it a lot of times and squeeze every inch out of it.

I'll buy it if it ever comes down to around a tenner as I'm not one for multiple play throughs unless it's Left-4-Dead in CO-OP.

Polygon completed it in 1.5 hours and it has 20 mins of cut scenes... I did have it pre ordered but I cancelled a few weeks ago as I'm halfway through ACIV and have Second Son ordered.

Evolve looks a bit like L4D and is from the same people, but I don't think there's a direct sequel in the works as yet

im sure it would sell like hotcakes though, im wondering what certain franchises would do when the zombie thing eventually becomes null like the vampires thing is now...

I do wonder if this content will be in MGS V, that would be the final straw for a lot of people. I personally don't think it will be and this prologue will only be available as a stand alone title. If this was out last month then I probably would have picked it up but releasing it on the same day as Second Son and only a week after the release of Titanfall (same day as the 360 version) is silly in terms of attracting sales.

I've never been a big MGS fan and by Guns of the Patriots just honestly found it tedious. So won't be picking this up. But I'm curious if this game is so short and has very little replayability then at what point do gamers end up getting what they deserve if it sells like hotcakes?

We live in an age where we can get a huge amount of information about an incoming game. There's a ton of critics, youtube reviewers, gaming websites, bloggers, forums etc etc but what are the odds that people will still complain about the length of Ground Zeroes once they've finished it.

"I've never been a big MGS fan and by Guns of the Patriots just honestly found it tedious"

I'm hoping lessons would have been learnt from that 'game' tetro. Bar the die hard MGS fans there were a lot of people that felt as you and I did about MGS4, so we can live in hope.

Ive been reading lots of positive things like most of the story being relayed in game, as opposed to 18 hour cut scenes, so fingers crossed.

My fave in the series has to be the Metal Gear Ac!d games.
I'd love an 'HD' remake on the Vita of 1&2 and a new 3rd game with sweet Vita graphics and some cameo cross game cards to collect/play.
It'd be immense.

I have to admit to being incredibly petty because the moment I saw that clip where he hides behind the horse (while still riding it) to avoid the enemy I've been really dismissive of this game. The cut scenes didn't help but it's also the story, at some point I just gave up caring. If I cared maybe the cut scenes would have been more enjoyable.

I'm sorry, but going to lose my rag here!? The game is not that one mission. It's a proven 6-8 hour game. It's come to something when you can't even trust Polygon!? And I find it laughable that people are now really interested in the story, what a bunch of hypocrites :D And it has 20 minutes of cutscenes...how is that not a positive? It's 1.5 hours of gameplay and 20 minutes of cutscenes, and that's the main story mission, there's even less in the other 5.

Nessy says:
I know you are a huge fan but there is no possible way you can convince me that one hour of gameplay (which is a prologue usually given away as an extra with the Zone of the Enders series) is worth 20+. Yes you can play it through multiple times on multiple different difficulty levels and there are optional missions (which are in the exact same map just with random objectives like 'kill two enemies') but it's still a joke.

It's a demo of MGS V, nothing more...

I'll take your word for it. Cancelled my order and will wait for the sub 20 price which won't take long knowing Zavvi. Love the series but not worth bothering for the current price, that and FF HD Vita collection is out on Friday lol

The issue for me is subjective - it is very clear what this game consists of now so if you don't think it value then you can choose not to buy it rather than make a 20 quid error.

For me it will be 20 quid well spent - it is no demo for me. The four hours it will take me to run through all missions (the added missions are Peace Walker style non cannon vignettes btw and not random), another four perfecting and learning, another four unlocking stuff (info, back story, clues) and several replays between now and Phantom Pain.

The debate is pointless - you like you buy you no like you no buy.

Exact same map? It depends how big a map doesn't it?

In reply to an earlier post on 19 Mar 2014 00:21:25 GMT
Fair enough, but I would suggest what you just outlined doing is exactly what a fan of a franchise would do with a demo (an extended demo maybe). You've got a lot of hours out of something that's really short by repeating it. But like I say fair enough, you're happy spending your money for that. I just hope if it sells well it doesn't create a precedent. The same way I hope Titanfall (another game IMO that isn't the full package as it were) doesn't set a precedent for selling well. Because if they do, if in five years time we're finding lots of half games getting released then we'll only have our selves to blame. (just to highlight I said IF)

Posted on 19 Mar 2014 07:06:35 GMT
Even if I was a MGS fan I wouldn't buy this out of principle - 20+ is disgusting. It seems to have a comparable amount of content to Dead Rising: Case Zero (just over an hour for a single playthrough, with replay value for people that wanted to do everything)... yet Case Zero was only 400MSP (which would have been about the equivalent of about 3.30 IIRC). I can't believe anyone would defend this...

"The same way I hope Titanfall (another game IMO that isn't the full package as it were) doesn't set a precedent for selling well"

Can I ask why Titanfall isn't 'the full package'? I haven't been following the game much, but from what I have seen in terms of it's reviews, it's one of the best competitive FPS games in years.

I'm interested but think this has PS+ written all over it. I'll wait it out or pick it up for a tenner but even at 23.00 I don't think it's value for money.
