I had a quick look and there doesn't seem to be a general topic to talk about what we're playing right now.

I got a Game Boy Advance a few weeks ago and have been buying up games for that in the last few weeks - I now have Super Mario World, Metroid Fusion, Zelda: The Minish Cap, Pokemon Sapphire, Sonic Advance, Golden Sun, Boktai, Advance Wars, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and should have Sword of Mana soon from eBay.

In the last couple of days I've been playing Metroid and Mario & Luigi. The former is as you'd expect from the series - tough as nails in places and not quite as brilliant as Super Metroid, but the same great gameplay and structure as previous entries. It does seem fairly short though - I think I'm about half way through after a couple of hours' play. I've also been playing Mario & Luigi which is just brilliant. I wasn't really sure what to expect, but it's just an extremely amusing and involving RPG with some fresh ideas and a very entertaining interpretation of the Mushroom Kingdom and its denizens.

I also bought Battlefield 1943 on PS3 a few days ago, and have been really enjoying that. I can fly the planes for s**t, but favour the rifleman and I have bought a headset which should arrive any day now, so hopefully that will help playing in squads and organising tactics. I was playing lots of KZ2 online, but that has been pushed aside for the moment in favour of this (just reached the general rank after I think 11 hours of play).

What's Fat Princess like - have the lag and server issues been sorted now? I'm thinking of buying it once I get my headset.

All issues have been sorted. It's great when you play with people you know.

I rented Viking from LoveFilm a couple of months ago and really enjoyed it. I mean, it was incredibly flawed and effectively very repetitive, but I liked the balance between exploration, stealth and combat and I thought technically it was very impressive. I thought it would have been better had it been one large island, and had there been a little more to do on the map other than kill enemies and liberate settlements. I thought the combat started out quite weak but soon became in-depth enough, and the mid-sized battles (against Elite Legion) and a couple of the set-piece raids on settlements were really awesome. I would have loved to have had a bit more of an optional tactical aspect; i.e. you're able to retreat from battles if you take too many losses, you can position archers for the optimum results, etc. The re-spawning enemies in battles ruined the illusion for me a little, and the last boss (and the bosses in general) was awful.

Still, a good game overall, and a strong 7/10 for me. I would love there to be a sequel, but I don't think sales were high so I doubt that's likely.

Trigger / Chris

I agree its flawed but I really enjoyed it, the slow motion dismemberment did it for me .. lol .. some parts were indeed frustrating and yes I agree there is much room for improvement.

I was following the special edition tin version on ebay the other day as I collect them, it went for £44 couldn't believe it.

Hi Bauer

Much better today thanks, just the shock and then spending 4 hours with his Fiancee who was of course in floods of tears. What can you say to someone who wants you to tell her it hasn't happened and that everything is going to be ok.

Mashed: Fully Loaded or Micro Machines V3. Both great (I assume you mean the original PlayStation).

I have also decided that I can't be bothered to even try to get Platinums in any games any more (not that I ever *really* tried). Most of the time, if I get 30-40% trophies from a game I own, I'm happy. The two I've come closest with have been inFamous and Uncharted, which are both about 2 trophies short (70%-odd).

I also rented Leisure Suit Larry: BOB from LoveFilm and it is insultingly bad. This is literally a 1/10 game; the worst piece of crap I've even played. It's taken me about 80 minutes to complete about 4 missions because the controls are so bloody awful even jumping up a platform or climbing a ladder takes ages.
