690 is a poor mans LPC

EDIT - I noticed that you didnt include the 780ti in that list, is that because 780ti>690? ;)

Weren't 690's marketed by Nvidia to people with small willy's?

I've got a 660ti and I'm impressed with it, however my sons 560ti is showing it's age amongst the games he likes to play so I'll be updating mine and passing the 660ti to him. My question though, is what do I upgrade to? - whatever it is it needs to be still good in 2 years!

Anyone want my 560ti ?

Chez

You could always SLI it?

I'd personally recommend any card with 3GB or more vRAM

In reply to an earlier post on 14 Mar 2014 12:26:18 GMT
I'd recommend -
Nvidia:
760
770
780
780ti
Titan
Titan Black

AMD:
R9 270X
R9 280
R9 280x
7950
R9 290
7970
R9 290x

Any of these will last 2 years, the closer to the bottom the more expensive but the longer it will last. ones at the top are about £150 and they hget gradually more expensive, upto around £400, expect the Titans which are just silly.

I couldn't fault my 660ti at all, but I don't think it's a good investment by now. Best just plok a bit more cash for a 7xx series.

I have a 6950, how much longer do you think that will last me... :/

In reply to an earlier post on 14 Mar 2014 12:37:40 GMT
About a week XD

Honestly, about another 6-12 months, 6950 is about on par with a 7870, which is still a really good card. Just the RAM in the 6950 which will hold it back.

20 minutes before it explodes in a hail of napalm.

Thats the R9 series that suffers from heat issues. The 6XXX series was actually quite good.

I never played Judgement but I think it was average according to those who played it, just more of the same. It was also developed by the guys that done Bulletstorm rather than Epic.

The new Gears is being developed by Blacktusk Studios which is basically a supergroup of devs made up of several of the best guys from lots of different studios.

Another reason I will probably end up with an XB1 is I have a feeling MS will have secured another few third party exclusives in the vein of Titanfall.

A 760 sounds like the best way to go then for Tetro, I had no idea it was only 12% weaker than a 770.

which you can enjoy in 240p and 20fps ;)

Cheers for the info guys, decided to go with EVGA's 770 from Scan (they're throwing in Daylight, which isn't out yet and is £7.99 on Steam until 9th of April I think, but anyway it's still something).

Up until recently I was almost certainly getting a XB1 somewhere down the line (probably this time next year), but looking back over the 360, if it's a similar pattern I don't see much I'd gain from a XB1 in terms of games that I couldn't run through a more maintained PC (I'm going to become more proactive in using the PC i have hooked up to my TV for gaming). I presume at some point my CPU, MOBO will bottleneck the system (it might already do that once the 770 is slotted in) so I'll wait and see.

Good choice, it might only be 12% more powerful than the 760 but that 12% can mean the difference between 50 and 60fps ;).

@Mozza

Lol, I have a feeling they have secured a really big third party game as an XB1 exclusive, something like Mass Effect... The internet will melt if so.

I'll be on Titanfall tonight but won't be able to chat because I don't have a chat headset for my laptop and don't really feel the need to get 1

To be honest that would be a good business move because I'd buy one just to play the next ME.

Good maths there mate. 12℅ of 50 is 6. So 12℅ would mean the difference between 50 & 56 ;)

There is no way of knowing what 12% more 'power' would give you in terms of an fps increase because every game is different.

Noticed on GAF in the Titanfall PC thread that a lot of guys with GTX 6 series GPU's (even 670 and 680's) are struggling to get constant 60fps with full graphical settings. Guys with 7 series cards seem to be fairing far better, maybe the extra VRAM ?.
