I had a game gear but I never once used batteries for it (it needed 6 AA batteries FFS!), always plugged it into the mains or used the car charger.

Shinobi 1 & 2 were awesome, I actually still remember the password for the last level in shinobi 2 - 7FDFC.

I spotted this Deus Ex handheld tribute and thought it would be relevant to this thread.

Apparently Gamegear Shinobi has gone onto the 3DS Virtual Console store. One of my favourite Shinobi games.

I've played Shinobi's Revenge on the Sega Megadrive II. Was that Shinobi 2? Not sure if SR was ever on a handheld, although i'm sure it could be now.

Not sure how the numbered versions stack up on the Megadrive but the GameGear ones were all exclusive to that platform.

Oh ok. You will have to excuse my lack of knowledge on the Shinobi series. I did love Shinobi's Revenge on the Megadrive though. Great game.

Wasn't there a Shinobi game on the PS2? It would have been good to have Shinobi back on PS3, but then 'Ninja Gaiden' seems to have that genre covered.

G. Hanks says:
Yeah, there was one on PS2 and I think there's also been one this gen too. Reviews for the PS2 one were lukewarm at best if memory serves correct and I think the current gen one has received a positive hammering from critics.

When you say 'positive hammering', do you mean it was a bad game or a brilliant game? I had no idea there was a Shinobi this gen.

I have a fully functioning game gear and Atari lynx at home lol.

Both had some great games but the game gear was awesome as it had the ability to play master system games on the move, for less than 10 minutes until the battery went flat lol.

I've even got the or table tv adapter for the game gear aswell. It'll be useless though when the analogue signal is shut off.

Analogue hey wayne, we had ours shut off about 2 years ago lol.

I thought that could be misconstrued after posting it but didn't have the energy to edit :-) Positive hammering as in total hammering, is definitely a bad game from all accounts.

Edit: Hmm... I may be wrong on there being a PS3/360 version of Shinobi. Swear I saw it reviewed on zero punctuation.

You're right. Wonder what game I was thinking of...... unless it was previewed but then cancelled for being too shonky... yet nothing on google. What the heck was I thinking about then? Must be going mad...

I remember rumours quite a few years ago, your not out of the ball park but i think it was cancelled.

There was an old-style shinobi released on XBLA, is that what you were thinking of?

G. Hanks says:
That's the original arcade one. The PS2 one was definitely criticised for being very bland. The one I'm thinking of for some reason I'm picturing him in a white tiled room dressed in black. There's a very real chance that it was a review for a totally different game but Shinobi was name checked in it and my aging brain got a bit confused.

Edit - There is a 3DS version now though.

Well there's us all talking about Shinobi, when surprise, surprise, 'Revenge of Shinobi' from the Sega Megadrive, is coming to PSN. It's released in the U.S. this week, so i'm guessing we will get it next week?

Great game for the retro gamers. I loved playing this in my megadrive days. Along with Robocop vs Terminator. I wonder how much it will be?

Was it worth it Joel? Shinobi back in the day was class. I think G.Hanks is right, Shinobi on PS2 wasn't as good as the classic 90's Shinobi.
